There are many things that make the James Bond series as recognisable and identifiable as it is – tropes that show up， without fail， in each of his movies. There's always the beautiful girl， the wicked villain， and the ever-present Miss Moneypenny. With 007 crashing back on to the big screen in November with his latest adventure Quantum of Solace， we feel it's time to pay tribute to one of the other staples that makes the Bond franchise what it is – the gizmos and gadgets designed by Q Branch， the research and development section of MI6.

In anticipation of the new electronic wizardry that Quantum of Solace promises， we cast a fond glance back over the past forty years of Bond gadgets to give you the best of the best. The only criteria? The gadgets had to be cool， unique… and actually used by 007 himself.

1:The Crocodile (Octopussy) 機(jī)械鱷魚《八爪女》

When Bond has to cross a crocodile-infested swamp to reach Octopussy's island castle， he doesn't take any risks. Instead， he has Q-branch build him a miniature boat disguised as a croc， which he then uses to sneak past the reptilian henchmen. Practical? Not in the slightest. Awesome? Definitely.

2:Cigarette Rocket (You Only Live Twice) 雪茄火箭《雷霆谷》

Okay， so not technically a Q-branch gadget – this explosive little beauty was designed by the Japanese Secret Intelligence Service and given to Bond just before his raid on SPECTRE's secret volcano base. When captured and sentenced to execution by his arch rival Ernst Stavro Blofeld， Bond asks for one last… to which Blofeld responds\"Yes. Give him his cigarettes. It won't be the nicotine that kills you， Mr. Bond. \" Silly， silly supervillain.

3: Wrist-Activated Dart Gun (Moonraker) 腕式飛鏢槍《登月計(jì)劃》

Although one of the silliest movies in the franchise， Moonraker did introduce us to this snacky little Rolex watch – described by M as \"standard equipment for all 00 agents in the field.\" Containing two different darts (one cyanide-tipped and the other designed to pierce armour) and fired by a particular flick of the wrist， Bond uses it twice in the film – to escape from a gyroscope and to kill Hugo Drax (before shoving him out into space).

4:Camera Sniper Rifle (License to Kill) 照相機(jī)《殺人執(zhí)照》

What do you do when you need to assassinate an underworld boss who fed your best friend to a group of tiger sharks， but also have to maintain the illusion of being a simple tourist? If you're James Bond， you use a camera that breaks down into a .220-calibre sniper rifle， with a special sensor built in so that only you can fire it. Of course， the fact that Bond missed his target and got captured by ninjas doesn't take away from how cool this little toy is.

5:Walther PPK 沃瑟PPK

Not really a gadget， but the Walther PPK is as much a part of the Bond franchise as the Bond girls and the exotic locations. Used by Bond in every movie prior to Tomorrow Never Dies (in which it was replaced by the updated P99)， the PPK is a semi-automatic 7.65mm handgun designed to be compact and concealable. Since its first appearance in Dr. No， the Walther hardly ever left Bond's side despite being taken away， damaged or destroyed a number of times.

Possibly the single most amusing gadget used by Bond， Little Nellie is a Wallis WA-116 Series 1 gyrocopter， completely collapsible and able to be transported in four large suitcases. Of course in true Bond fashion she also happens to be armed to the teeth， toting two machine guns， a pair of homing missiles， a brace of flame throwers， rocket launchers and aerial mines. Needless to say the pilots of the four military helicopters she proceeded to utterly annihilate were somewhat surprised.

7:Underwater Rebreather (Thunderball， Die Another Day)微型水中呼吸器 《霹靂彈》、《擇日再死》

This portable scuba set provides the user with four minutes of oxygen. It doesn't blow up， or shoot laser beams， or do anything else particularly spectacular， but when you've been dropped into a shark tank or need to dive under pack ice to save the girl， it's just what the doctor ordered.

When you think of the iconic Bond automobile， this is the baby that springs to mind. Sleek， silver-gray， and sporting an array of gizmos and gadgets that makes your average Swiss army knife look useless， the DB5 is a thing of beauty. Best thing of all? The passenger-side ejector seat， with the trigger hidden in the gearstick.\"Now this one I'm particularly keen about. You see the gear lever here? Now， if you take the top off， you will find a little red button. Whatever you do， don't touch it.\"\"Why not? \"\"Because you'll release this section of the roof， and engage and then fire the passenger ejector seat. Whish!\" If that’s not a red rag to a bull， I don’t know what is.

9:The Submersible Lotus (The Spy Who Loved Me， For Your Eyes Only)水下蓮花《海底城》、《最高機(jī)密》

Possibly the most advanced Bond gadget ever， the Lotus Esprit S1 is another 007 icon. As well as being able to turn into a submarine at the press of a button， the car also had all of Q's usual accessories including surface-to-air missiles， depth charges， underwater smoke screens， and torpedoes. Although the Lotus survived its first adventure， it ended up getting wrecked in For Your Eyes Only.

10:The Attache Case (From Russia With Love)致命的公文包《來自俄羅斯的愛》

A tough choice between this， the DB5 and the Lotus， but best gadget in a Bond film EVER has to go to the first of the lot. This slick little attaché case was scorned by Bond when he was first issued with it， but it soon proved its worth a dozen times over. Along with just being a regular old attaché case， it also contained a collapsible AR7 hunting rifle， fifty gold sovereigns， a canister of tear gas and a spring-mounted ejectable throwing knife. Oh， and it was rigged to explode if it was opened incorrectly.
