Directions: Suppose your university is seeking students’ opinions on whether university libraries should be open to the public. You are now to write an essay to express your view. You will have 30 minutes for the task. You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.

Recently there has been a heated debate as to whether university libraries should be open to the public. As far as I am concerned, libraries on campus should be for the exclusive use of college students and faculty members.
As we know, university libraries are built to facilitate the learning and research activities of college students and the faculty. So libraries on campus, whose focus is on academic materials rather than entertainment, are not suitable for the public, the majority of whom go to a library with the purpose of entertaining themselves. Also, university libraries, groaning under the burden of surging numbers of students, can hardly cope with swarms of non-student readers. College students already find it difficult to get a vacant seat in their libraries. Plus, allowing the public to have access to university libraries would create potential safety hazards.
As the heart of a university, the library’s priority is to meet students’ and teachers’ needs. I think it is undesirable that university libraries be open to the general public. (171 words)
1. As far as I am concerned, libraries on campus should be for the exclusive use of college students and faculty members. as/so far as I am concerned依我看。
2. So libraries on campus, whose focus is on academic materials rather than entertainment, are not suitable for the public, the majority of whom go to a library with the purpose of entertaining themselves.
3. Also, university libraries, groaning under the burden of surging numbers of students, can hardly cope with swarms of non-student readers. cope with 應(yīng)對。
4. I think it is undesirable that university libraries be open to the general public. it is undesirable that... ……

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay that begins with the sentence “Nowadays cultivating independent learning ability is becoming increasingly important for personal development.” You can make comments, cite examples or use your personal experiences to develop your essay. You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

Nowadays cultivating independent learning ability is becoming increasingly important for personal development. A recent Johns Hopkins University study suggests that independent learning ability prepares students for lifelong learning and equips them with essential skills for future success.
In today’s world, where information is readily available at your fingertips, the ability to learn on your own is more important than ever before. When learning independently, students have the freedom to explore topics of personal interest and learn at their own pace. This personalized approach will help students shine academically. On top of that, by participating in the learning process independently, students develop important skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving and self-management, which are also highly valued in the professional world, thus contributing to their success later in the workplace.
