so that意為“以便；為了”時，常用來引導(dǎo)一個表示目的的狀語從句，此時可與in order that換用；從句謂語中常用情態(tài)動詞may/might, can/ could, should, would等；主從句間連接緊湊，沒有逗號相隔。如：

I spend more time learning English every day so that (in order that) I can make greater progress this year.為了在今年取得更大進步，我每天用了更多的時間學英語。

展示二：引導(dǎo)結(jié)果狀語從句

so that意為“因此；所以”時，常用來引導(dǎo)一個表示結(jié)果的狀語從句，此時不能與in order that換用；從句中謂語根據(jù)需要使用相應(yīng)的時態(tài)，主從句間可有逗號相隔。如：

Wang Lin did not work hard enough, so that she is out of work when she is still young.王林工作不夠努力，因此年輕時就失業(yè)了。

展示三：辨別兩種不同狀語從句

so that既可以引導(dǎo)目的狀語從句，也可以引導(dǎo)結(jié)果狀語從句，如何區(qū)別呢？我們可以從以下兩點進行辨別：

（1）根據(jù)句子結(jié)構(gòu)辨別

從句謂語中含有情態(tài)動詞may/ might, can/ could, should, would等，這時so that引導(dǎo)的是一個目的狀語從句；從句前面有逗號和主句相隔時，so that引導(dǎo)的是一個結(jié)果狀語從句。試對比以下兩個例句：

He didn’t plan his time well, so that he didn’t finish his work in time.他沒有把時間計劃好，結(jié)果沒有按時完成這項工作。

Yesterday morning Miss Li got up early so that she could catch the first bus.昨天早上李小姐為了趕上早班車起床很早。

（2）根據(jù)主從句邏輯關(guān)系辨別

so that引導(dǎo)目的狀語從句，一般表示尚未完成的目的或意圖，主句和從句之間是結(jié)果與目的的關(guān)系；而so that引導(dǎo)的結(jié)果狀語從句則是表示主句所導(dǎo)致的結(jié)果，主句和從句之間是原因與結(jié)果的關(guān)系。試比較：

I gave my new telephone number to Li Lei so that he may call me when necessary.我把新的電話號碼告訴給李雷，以便必要時他可以給我打個電話。

I told Li Lei my new telephone number so that all of them called me when necessary.我把新的電話號碼告訴了李雷，因此，必要時他們都給我打了電話。

展示四：so...that...與so that的區(qū)別

so that和so...that看上去很相似，它們之間有什么區(qū)別呢？

“so...that...”句型的意思是“如此/這么……以至于……”，常引導(dǎo)結(jié)果狀語從句。

1. so... that句型中的so是副詞，常常用來修飾形容詞或副詞，常用句型為：主語+謂語+so+形容詞/副詞+that從句。如：

He was so angry that he couldn’t say a word.（so后接的是形容詞）

The boy ran so fast that I couldn’t catch him.（so后接的是副詞）

2. so that ...（以便/為了……），引導(dǎo)目的狀語從句和結(jié)果狀語從句。如：

He spoke at the top of his voice so that the students at the back could hear him.他說話聲音很高，為的是后面的同學能聽見。（目的狀語從句）

He spoke at the top of his voice, so that the students at the back heard him.他說話聲音很高，結(jié)果后面的同學都聽見了。（結(jié)果狀語從句）
