Zhan Ruoshui’s Elucidation and Construction of the Chen Baisha School of the Study of the Mind

Abstract: Zhan Ruoshui played a very important role in the inheritance and development of the Jiangmen School. His elucidation and construction of Chen Baisha’s academic thought rendered complete the theoretical system of Chen’s theory, including the theory of cosmogenesis, ontology and the theory of learning through intuition. On cosmogenesis, Zhan elucidated Chen Baisha’s theories of vitality and gasification, taking them as the material basis of Chen Baisha’s system of the study of the mind. In terms of ontology, Zhan took the system of Tao and the study of the mind as the two fulcrum points of Chen’s ontology, and took the connection between the Tao and the mind as the core goal of his ontology system, forming a essence-function relationship between noumemon and nature. Regarding the theory of learning through intuition, Zhan elucidated Chen’s way of interpreting the mind by means of Tao and principles, his way of learning through understanding the principles everywhere, and his spontaneous way of experiencing and identifying with the heavenly principles, thus establishing a complete system of the theory of learning through intuition.

Abstract: Innovation-led development and comprehensive strengthening of intellectual property protection are Xi Jinping’s strategic view of strengthening China’s intellectual property protection in China’s new stage of development. It is of great significance to enhancing our innovation ability, realizing our self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology, and building a new development pattern. Under the guidance of the national top-level design “Guidelines for Building a Powerful Country with Intellectual Property Rights (2021-2035)” and the National Plan for Intellectual Property Protection and Application during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, we will improve laws related to intellectual property rights, strengthen punishment for intellectual property infringements, rely on intellectual property professionals, follow the basic principles of integrity and honesty, give full play to the function and value of the intellectual property system in stimulating innovation, ensuring observing global rules, public policies, protecting human rights, and promoting high-quality national development.

Abstract: The authors conducted a survey on 14 young women in Jiangmen, Guangdong Province, of whom 5 are post-85s and 9 are post-95s. Based on previous studies and the data, collected in the survey, mate-selection preferences are discussed in four dimensions, namely the way, scope, initiative-side and standards for a partner, while age, income, educational background and a marital home are taken as the mate-selection standards. From the perspective of family orientation and individual orientation, this paper compares and analyzes the similarities and differences of the two groups' views on mate selection.

Abstract:In the process of migrating to North America in modern times, the Chinese took with them the architectural culture of their hometowns to their countries of residence and combined it with overseas styles, resulting in various unique types of architecture, different from those in their hometowns—guild buildings in Chinatowns. On the other hand, the overseas Chinese also brought back their new ideas of architecture to their hometowns and influenced the development of architecture there. Taking the “Chin Wing Chun Tong Society Building” in Vancouver Chinatown as an example, this paper investigates its architectural features, analyzes its history, architectural design, space layout, interior and exterior decoration, and explores the connections between socio-cultural factors that affected the architecture in Chinatowns and the architectural culture of the hometowns of overseas Chinese.

Abstract：Overseas Chinese from Foshan actively donated to philanthropic enterprises in their hometown in modern times. This enthusiasm resulted from the profound philanthropic tradition of the local folk, clan consciousness and strong attachment to hometowns, the decline of traditional charity of the time and the bridging role played by overseas Chinese groups. Major donations went to disaster relief, education, health care, roads and bridges and other public undertakings. These charitable donations promoted Foshan’s economic, social, educational, and cultural development and were an important manifestation of their patriotism and love for their hometowns in the modern times.

Abstract: The Japanese aggression wreaked havoc in China’s coastal areas, and brought opportunities as well as disasters for the Chaozhou Merchants Association in Chikan, Zhanjiang. Traditionally such associations served both as a “commercial network” and a center for social relations. Under French colonial rule in the wartime, Guangzhou Bay was rather prosperous, and the Chaozhou Guild made use of their business network, and economic and cultural resources built over time, actively conducted relief work to help their fellow-townsmen and development of land and properties. However, due to the deterioration of the situation and the imbalance of the guild's income and expenditure, the guild could not bear the heavy social functions and moral responsibilities, and its management was difficult to sustain, and finally it went into decline.

Abstract:GongAnBurelatively concentratedly records the divorce cases of Chinese in Jakarta, reproduces to some extent the marriage status of the Chinese and reflects the inheritance and evolution of the marriage customs of the Chinese there. In the mid-19th century, under the dual influence of local culture and Western culture, Chinese women in Jakarta had marital autonomy and more open marriage ideas. The Chinese Guild in Jakarta, which maintained the order of the Chinese community there, not only tried to preserve and maintain the traditional Chinese culture when trying divorce cases, but also inevitably integrated it into the social system of the Indonesian colonies under Dutch rule.

Abstract:Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, under the influence of Buddhist beliefs and many other social factors, a cohort of sworn spinsters emerged. They took Princess Miaoshan, a folk “Guanyin prototype”, as their goddess. They practiced ascetics and remained unmarried all their life. They also lived in seclusion and earned money by themselves, becoming a unique folk phenomenon in Guangdong in that specific time. Based on this unique female group in Guangdong, this paper combs the origin, causes and the Guanyin beliefs reflected by them. It is found that the resistance to tradition by Sworn Spinsters was closely related to the belief in Guanyin. Although they got their living space under the traditional social order, they were always confined within the framework of the patriarchal order.

Abstract: The concept of “Doomsday Imagination”originated from the Christian tradition. Liang Qichao’sDoomsdayDiaryis a translated novel based on science and religion. In the decadent mood and doomsday imagination at the end of 19thcentury, the text stripped out the original Christian thought and the scientific spirit of astronomy, and integrated Liang Qichao’s personal Buddhist concepts and his circumstances in exile, and influenced the writing of the doomsday imagination literature in the late Qing Dynasty. By tracing the republishing and dissemination of the Diary in different journals and analyzing the thought trend of the end of the world in the late Qing dynasty, the relationship between the writing of the end of the world and the thought trend of Buddhism stimulated by it in the late Qing Dynasty, this paper attempts to explain the relationship between doomsday writing and Buddhism in late Qing Dynasty from the perspective of Sino-Japanese cultural exchanges in modern times.

Abstract: The cultural prejudice against Lingnan, the fear of being demoted there, and the strong expectation of returning to the north through imperial pardon resulted in exiled literati being unable to accept Lingnan or being unable to see a real Lingnan. Their estrangement from Lingnan also led to the estrangement and separation between the scenery described in their post road poems and the scenery they were in.

Abstract: This paper measures and evaluates the degree of resource mismatch and factor distortion in Guangdong so as to provide a more specific operational basis for the optimal allocation of resources and the structural reform of the supply side. Using the simplified HK model to measure the mismatch and factor distortion of dual resources (factors of production and factors of R& D), some suggestions for improvement are given.

Abstract: Based on the sample data of companies listed in the A-share stock market from 2010 to 2019, this paper discusses the relationship between financing constraints and total factor productivity of enterprises and the mediating effect of the diversified business strategy. The results show that financing constraints have a significant negative impact on total factor productivity. In addition, the effect of financing constraints on total factor productivity is heterogeneous in different property rights, different financial ecological environments and different marketization processes. Further analysis shows that the diversification strategy has an inverted U-shaped relationship with TFP, and also plays a mediating role in the impact of financing constraints on TFP.

Great achievements have been made in the new edition, but there are still some shortcomings in terms of interpretation, traceability, age of documents, materials, references, and descriptions, which need to be further improved. In the process of further revision, we should draw from more materials, refer more to academic research results, and absorb the new methods of international academic circles in terms of style.

Abstract: Yuan Shu (爰書) was used many times on bamboo slips of the Qin and Han Dynasties. Ancient scholars used “change (yi易)” and “exchange (huan換)” to explain “Yuan (爰)”. Modern scholars think that Yuan Shu (爰書) was a kind of professional judicial document for recording confessions of convicts and proceedings of cases. This study reveals that “yuan (爰)” means “pull by hand”. Yuan Shu (爰書) includes memoranda of complaints/confessions/ testimonies/interrogations, etc.FengZhenShiof the Qin dynasty was a kind of professional judicial document and was calledShu(official document) in the Han dynasty.

Abstract: In the context of the College English curriculum reform, college EFL teachers are confronted with a career transformation from teaching English for general purposes (EGP) to teaching English for specific purposes (ESP). Drawing on in-depth interviews with five college teachers of Business English, this qualitative study reveals that the teaching transformation has a multi-level impact on their professional identity changes. In order to boost these teachers’ professional development in the long term, it is suggested that joint efforts at both individual and institutional levels be made.

Abstract: A “SMART” model framework for the College English classroom is constructed, and it is coded to collect research data. The results show that the weight values of content presentation, organization management, resource acquisition, timely interaction and test scores are 0.233, 0.108, 0.249, 0.218 and 0.192, respectively. Judging by the weight values, resource acquisition is the most critical in the process of building a smart classroom and requires the most significant attention. Content presentation also plays an important role and teachers should present learning resources in an appropriate way to attract students’attention. Interaction is the key index of the classroom and can improve students’learning incentive; the weight value of test scores and organization management is small and should also be considered.
