Spring, the Sweet Spring春天，甜美的春天

托馬斯·納什（1567—1601），牧師之子，14歲進入劍橋大學(xué)，主修哲學(xué)和拉丁文，1586年獲學(xué)士學(xué)位。在伊麗莎白時代，英國文藝復(fù)興進入了繁盛階段，托馬斯·納什成為當(dāng)時劍橋的“大學(xué)才子”之一，也是著名的劇作家和詩人。

《春天，甜美的春天》這首詩出自納什唯一一部獨立創(chuàng)作的田園戲劇《夏季的臨終遺囑》（Summer’s Last Will）。本詩的韻律為抑揚格五音步（iambic pentameter）。每節(jié)前三行韻腳為aaa，且每行均有腹韻，即每行的第二個音步的最后一個音和本行尾音押韻，比如第一行的spring和行尾的king押韻。每節(jié)第四句為疊句（refrain），鳥鳴聲作為疊句出現(xiàn)在各詩節(jié)的相同位置，在很大程度上增強了該詩的音樂美。詩人還運用了諸如bloom、cuckoo等鮮明的春天意象，動靜結(jié)合，描繪出春天大自然萬物復(fù)蘇、歡快祥和的景象，以及一派理想的田園風(fēng)光：寒冷退去，溫暖歸來，生機勃發(fā)。與此同時，春天和大自然把活力和歡樂帶給了人們，讓我們看到春一般甜美的愛情和溫馨的生活。

整首詩旋律簡樸輕快，體現(xiàn)了春天的欣欣向榮和生機無限。

Spring， the sweet spring， is the year’s pleasant king，

Then blooms each thing， then maids dance in a ring，

Cold doth not sting， the pretty birds do sing：

Cuckoo， jug-jug， pu-we， to-witta-woo！

The palm and may make country houses gay，

Lambs frisk and play， the shepherds pipe all day，

And we hear aye birds tune this merry lay：

Cuckoo， jug-jug， pu-we， to-witta-woo！

The fields breathe sweet， the daisies kiss our feet，

Young lovers meet， old wives a-sunning sit，

In every street these tunes our ears do greet：
