哈德遜廣場(chǎng)55號(hào)將曼哈頓新大型開發(fā)項(xiàng)目的現(xiàn)代化靈動(dòng)造型與臨近環(huán)境工業(yè)基礎(chǔ)相結(jié)合。

考慮到項(xiàng)目場(chǎng)地的特殊限制因素，KPF遵循自下而上的設(shè)計(jì)方法，專注研究適用于大廈的建筑語言并展現(xiàn)場(chǎng)地背景意義的創(chuàng)新性建筑細(xì)節(jié)，并最終打造一個(gè)簡潔、優(yōu)雅的建筑，喚起人們對(duì)附近肉類加工區(qū)工業(yè)基礎(chǔ)的回憶。外立面青銅網(wǎng)格設(shè)有獨(dú)特的開窗模塊。在裙樓與塔樓前區(qū)之間，開窗模塊大小不一。每個(gè)模塊階梯式斷面按比例變化，既滿足美學(xué)目標(biāo)，又響應(yīng)制造工藝的限制因素并減緩材料老化過程。這種強(qiáng)烈正交立面的影響也體現(xiàn)在塔樓內(nèi)部空間。在塔樓內(nèi)部，采用切面裂面的花崗巖在現(xiàn)代化背景中展現(xiàn)自然的肌理特征。

同樣深灰石材完全包裹了大堂30英尺高墻體。起初，設(shè)計(jì)團(tuán)隊(duì)需要打造一個(gè)具有一定紋理的飾面，并測(cè)試多個(gè)工藝流程以達(dá)到此效果。從開始的火燒和劈裂石材表面，再到切割打磨成立面的圓邊形狀，每種處理似乎既不實(shí)用也不具有機(jī)特征，并常常造成非自然光澤紋理。相反地，最后面板利用材料的自然形態(tài)，即從采石場(chǎng)中提取均勻石塊時(shí)通常被丟棄的一部分石材。在主入口，電梯走廊和各個(gè)轎廂之間，設(shè)置與板材組合相呼應(yīng)的的不同表面拋光處理。對(duì)主要入口處的所有天花和門洞進(jìn)行拋光處理以形成高反光的深色飾面。

為了定制室內(nèi)外模塊，KPF配合制造商與工廠的工作流程以測(cè)試每個(gè)板型及連接處實(shí)體樣板的整體性能。盡管設(shè)計(jì)團(tuán)隊(duì)不斷遇到問題，設(shè)計(jì)團(tuán)隊(duì)仍盡力鼓勵(lì)維持設(shè)計(jì)理念。團(tuán)隊(duì)能夠制造數(shù)個(gè)實(shí)體樣板的能力也有助于我們結(jié)合施工的可行性更好地了解優(yōu)選材料。

55 Hudson Yards synthesizes the contemporary, sleek forms of Manhattan’s new megadevelopment with the industrial roots of its immediate environs.

Given the site’s particular constraints, KPF followed a bottom-up design approach, focusing on seminal building details that would apply to the tower’s vocabulary and offer contextual significance.The result is a simple yet elegant evocation of the industrial roots of the neighboring Meatpacking District. On the facade, a gunmetal grid features distinct fenestration modules that shift in size between the podium and tower fronts. Each module’s stepped profile varies in proportion and responds to aesthetic goals, fabrication restraints, and weather mitigation. This strong, orthogonal influence translates to the tower’s interior, where the application of split face jet mist granite embodies its natural roughness in a modern setting.

The same dark grey stone clads the entirety of the lobby’s 30-foot-high walls. Initially, the design team desired a textured finish, testing multiple processes to achieve this effect. From flaming and splitting the stone to shaping it to mimick the facade’s rounded edges, each treatment seemed neither practical nor organic, often resulting in unnatural, glossy textures. Instead, the final panels utilize the material’s natural face, a portion of the stone that is usually discarded when extracting uniform blocks from the quarry. Between the main entrance, elevator corridor and individual cabs,different polishes align with the panels’ placement; all soffits and thresholds of large entrances are polished to a highly reflective, dark finish.

To achieve the bespoke exterior and interior modules, KPF aligned a network of fabricators and factories to test full performance mock ups of each panel type and meeting point. The team encountered ongoing questions and was routinely encouraged to defend their design philosophy.The ability to produce several mock ups encouraged better understanding of the preferred materials in conjunction with their construction feasibility.
