Guangzhou-Shenzhen-HK high-speed train tickets go on sale
連接中國大陸和香港的高鐵車票現(xiàn)已通過網(wǎng)絡(luò)平臺、電話熱線和西九龍航站樓的柜臺發(fā)售。廣深港高鐵全長141公里,內(nèi)地段廣州南至深圳北、福田站分別于2011年底、2015年底建成通車。香港段于2010年開工建設(shè),由香港特別行政區(qū)全資興建。這條線路于9月23日正式開通。乘客可以在12306官網(wǎng)或者手機APP上購買車票,購票時需提供大陸手機號。廣深港高鐵開通后,從香港到北京9小時便能到達,二等座位的票價是1077元(約合156.97美元)。
Tickets for high-speed trains linking Chinese mainland and Hong Kong go on sale via online platforms, telephone hotline and counters at the West Kowloon terminal.The Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express railway is 141 kilometers long totally. The mainland section from Guangzhou South to Shenzhen North and Futian opened to traffic at the end of 2011 and 2015, respectively.The work on Hong Kong section began in 2010 and was constructed by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The line officially opened on Sept 23.Tickets are available through 12306.cn platform or its app, but only for users with mainland phone numbers.The ticket price for second class of the less than nine hours’ journey from Hong Kong to Beijing is 1,077 yuan ($156.97).
China building a superconducting computer
中國科學(xué)家正在建造一種低能耗高性能超導(dǎo)計算機,目標是在2022年完成原型機。中科院的科學(xué)家們于2017年11月啟動了這項價值10億元人民幣(1.45億美元)的項目。這臺前所未有的機器將擁有中央處理器,運行頻率為770千兆赫或更高。中國神威太湖之光是僅次于美國峰會的全球第二快超級計算機。據(jù)參與研發(fā)過程的一名研究人員稱,該超級計算機一年需要15兆瓦的電量。計算機體系結(jié)構(gòu)國家重點實驗室常務(wù)副主任李曉維表示,建造超導(dǎo)計算機主要是為了減少未來高性能計算機的能源需求。
Chinese scientists are building a low-energy and high-performance superconducting computer, aiming to complete a prototype as early as 2022.Scientists at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) launched the project, worth one-billion yuan (145 million US dollars), last November.The unprecedented machine will have central processing units running at a frequency of 770 gigahertz or higher. China’s Sunway TaihuLight, the world’s second-fastest supercomputer behind the Summit in the US,requires 15 megawatts of power to run for one year, according to a researcher involved in the R&D process.Li Xiaowei, executive deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Computer Architecture, is well acquainted with the project and said the main motivation to build a superconducting computer is to cut energy demands of future high-performance computers.

在本年度《華爾街日報》/《泰晤士高等教育》大學(xué)排名評比中,哈佛大學(xué)再次榮登榜首,同樣位于劍橋的麻省理工學(xué)院位居第二。從本年度排名前50的學(xué)校可以看出,學(xué)校提供良好教育的能力不在于規(guī)模大小?!度A爾街日報》/《泰晤士高等教育》排名重點考察大學(xué)能否很好地幫助學(xué)生為畢業(yè)后的人生做準備。總排名全面考量15個因素,總體分為四大類:學(xué)生成就(衡量標準包括畢業(yè)生的薪資)在總分數(shù)中占到40%,學(xué)校的學(xué)術(shù)資源占30%,學(xué)生的參與度占20%,學(xué)生與教員的多元化程度占10%。本次排名以18.9萬份學(xué)生調(diào)查問卷為基礎(chǔ),問題包括課程有沒有挑戰(zhàn),教師是否經(jīng)常鼓勵學(xué)生將課堂所學(xué)應(yīng)用到實踐中,以及是否有機會與同學(xué)合作。
Harvard University top this year’s Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings again, followed by its Cambridge neighbor, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.The top 50 schools in this year’s rankings show that institutions small and large can deliver a great education. The WSJ/THE rankings emphasize how well a college will prepare students for life after graduation. The overall ranking is based on 15 factors across four categories: Forty percent of each school’s overall score comes from student outcomes, including a measure of graduate salaries, 30% from the school’s academic resources, 20%from how well it engages its students and 10% from the diversity of its students and staff.The rankings include 189,000 responses from students to survey questions including how challenging they find their classes, how often faculty encourage them to apply classroom instruction to the real world, and whether they have opportunities to collaborate with classmates.
