Superkilen is a half-mile long urban space wedged into one of the most ethnically diverse and socially challenged neighborhoods in Denmark. It was conceived as a giant exhibition of the best urban practice - a sort of collection of global found objects that come from 60 different home countries of the people inhabiting the adjacent areas. The objects range from exercise equipments from Muscle Beach in LA to sewage drains from Israel, palm trees from China and neon signs from Qatar and Russia. Each object is accompanied by a small stainless plate inlaid in the ground describing the object, what it is and where it is from - in Danish and in the language(s) of its origin. The park serves as a surrealist collection of global urban diversity that in fact reflects the true nature of local neighborhoods - rather than perpetuating a petrified image of homogenous Denmark.
Superkilen is part of a partnership between Copenhagen Municipality and Realdania. The goal is to make the N?rrebro neighborhood the center of innovative urban spaces of international standards which can be an inspiration for other cities and neighborhoods.

Comments
Li Xiaofeng: In an ancient country like Denmark, it is exciting to encounter such a vivid super-realistic open space in relatively close and steady city blocks characterized by cultural inheritance. Immersed in space established by red blocks, with groups of inspiring white lines flowing on the ground, visitors could be deeply affected by earth landscape spatial art. Besides,as a half mile line-oriented city park, Superkilen has also collected and exhibited representative material cultural elements from 60 nationalities all over the world, which enhanced thought-provoking cultural depth for the whole project. These formed the charm of this community park.
LIN Xiao: "Spirit of place" in different areas of a city is actually specific but small. To achieve the real revitalization, it is necessary to avoid the ideal "seeking the same" in the label of pursuing the urban identity and to "reserve differences" in line with local conditions in a practical way.
The conservation and revitalization of urban context have a very important purpose and effect, that is, to constantly evoke the memory and the sense of belonging of people about "where we come from" and "where we are now". Such nostalgia and source-tracing often bring about sorrow and melancholy, which is also a tagging of inertial thinking. However, with a calm attitude after reflections, the nostalgia from memory and attachment of a place can also be turned into the glory of history and the joy of life.
