Theenterprising(富有創(chuàng)造精神的)student from Brunel University has created the unbreakable ‘Brolli’,which he says will stay upright in the stormiest of weather.
Thegadget(小配件)opens insideout and looks like an upside-down umbrella. It opens over the top of people’s heads and theribs(傘 骨)flex with the wind, stopping it from being bent out of shape in agale(大風(fēng)).The design also means that the water is queezed out(擠出去)as it is drawn back into its carryingtube(筒),so you won’t besoaked(淋濕)carrying it.
Simon Warne,27,said,“I came up with the idea of Brollii when I was in Paris standing in front of the Musee d’Orsay in a long queue(隊(duì)).”
“It started to pour with rain and became verygutsy(有力的).I watched as people struggled to open their umbrellas while being squashed(壓碎)by the crowd and getting poked(戳到)from flailing umbrella ribs.”
“I thought to myself, surely with new technology and materials, there must be a better solution!”
Theelectronic base(電子底座)of thepot(花盆)isilluminated(發(fā)亮)with a green light if all is well and turns red if it’s too dry,hot or cold or if it’s too light or dark. The‘Tulipe’ alsovibrates(震動(dòng))when picked up if it has a red light on.
The 22-year-old designer said she was inspired(產(chǎn)生靈感)by her grandfather who has an age-related sight condition.
“It was designed for people like him,”she said.
“It encourages the gardener to interact(互動(dòng))with their plant. When the base turns red,one doesn’t know if the plant is thirsty,or too cold and you have to try out theoptions(選擇)until it turns green.”
Both the Brolli and the Tulipe will be on display with some other 250 designs at the annual(年度的)Made in Brunelshowcase(展示)run by graduating Brunel University design and engineering students.
