Despite Tokyo being one of the most expensive cities in the world, you would be surprised at how much there is to enjoy for free. From observatories[觀察臺] to museums,
we have rounded up[把……聚攏起來] the easiest ways to
experience Japan’s capital for absolutely nothing!
Free View of the City
A great way to appreciate the scale[規(guī)模,范圍] of Tokyo is by visiting an observatory where you can get unrestricted views over the city and surrounding areas including Mount Fuji and Yokohama. Luckily, the Tokyo Metropolitan[首府的] Government Building next to Shinjuku station offers free access[入口,通路] to two viewing galleries[長廊,走廊] on the 45th floor. There, you can enjoy some of the best sights of Tokyo. Opening hours are from 9:30AM to 11:00PM, perfect for both day and night visits!
Free Temples
There are many temples and shrines[神殿,神祠] in Tokyo. The largest and most famous is Meiji Jingu. This is the most important Shinto[日本的神道教] shrine in Tokyo and a great way to experience Japanese history for free.
Free Entry Museums
The Kanto Earthquake Museum is a worthwhile visit to see the exhibits and the memorial for the people who died in the 1923 earthquake disaster.
The NHK注 Broadcasting Museum is located close to Kamiyacho station. It offers you a chance to discover Japan’s national television network and even read your own news bulletin[新聞快報(bào)].
Free Showroom Visits
Tokyo is home to many Japanese companies who have a showroom to display their latest products for your enjoyment.
The Honda Welcome Plaza in Aoyama has many interesting items including the famous Asimo robot.
Also recommended[推薦] is the Sony Building in Ginza for the latest technology in televisions, audio and robotic dogs.
Free Parks
There is a selection of parks in Tokyo with the two main ones being Yoyogi Park and Ueno Park.
Yoyogi Park is one of the largest parks in Tokyo and was the location of the 1964 Olympics. It is now a great area to see street performers and entertainers.
Ueno Park is popular with many Japanese people and foreign visitors, particularly during the Cherry Blossom season in April.
Free Snacks
Let’s be honest, Japanese food is delicious and healthy. So it is worthwhile eating as much as you can during your stay. If you want to try different Japanese flavours before spending any money on them, then a visit to the food basements of the major department stores[百貨公司] will be perfect. You can taste a variety of different snacks from nuts and sweets to dried squid[魷魚] and rice crackers.
