In 1894，Athens，Greeces capital，had the opportunity to host the first modern Olympic Games.

Unfortunately，the good news was also bad news for Athens. The Olympic Games would cost a lot of money，but the city did not have that much money.

So，the Premier of Greece asked to host the Olympic Games later. He told Mr Baron de Coubertin that Athens was short of money.

Mr Baron de Coubertin did everything he could to help Athens，and the people of Greece also helped their capital by donating money. But there still was not enough money for Athens to host the Olympic Games.

Luckily，a stamp collector in Greece thought of a good idea. Why not issue Olympic stamps to raise money?

Greece then issued a series of Olympic stamps to see if the idea would work. To everyones surprise，the Olympic stamps were hugely popular. Athens was finally able to raise enough money to host the first modern Olympic Games.

1894年，希臘的首都雅典獲得了舉辦第一屆現(xiàn)代奧運(yùn)會(huì)的機(jī)會(huì)。

可惜的是，這條好消息對(duì)于雅典來說也是個(gè)壞消息。因?yàn)榕e辦奧運(yùn)會(huì)要花很多錢，而雅典根本就沒有那么多的錢。

因此，希臘的首相提出了推遲舉辦奧運(yùn)會(huì)的要求。他還把缺錢的事情告訴了當(dāng)時(shí)的國際奧委會(huì)秘書長顧拜旦先生。

顧拜旦先生竭盡全力來幫助雅典，希臘人民也紛紛捐款。但是雅典還是沒有足夠的錢來舉辦奧運(yùn)會(huì)。

就在這時(shí)，希臘的一位集郵愛好者想出了一個(gè)好主意：為什么不發(fā)行奧運(yùn)郵票來籌集資金呢?

于是希臘試著發(fā)行了一套奧運(yùn)郵票。結(jié)果讓所有的人都大吃一驚，奧運(yùn)郵票大受歡迎，雅典最終籌集到了足夠的資金，成功地舉辦了第一屆現(xiàn)代奧運(yùn)會(huì)。
