“Show us,” said Eric, handing Emma a piece of chalk. Emma took the chalk and began drawing. She drew shapes that were full of straight lines and bright colors. They were bigger than the shapes Lisa and Eric had drawn, covering each other to form new shapes. She colored the drawings purple, blue, and white. “Wow!” the art teacher showed up and said. “It’s beautiful.” The three students stood up and looked at what they had done, their heart filled with pride.
Hearing the teacher’s praise, many students gathered around. They made various comments, varying from the universe with planets and stars to a coral reef full of fish. Finally the teacher asked for Lisa’s opinion. Glancing at Eric and Emma, whose knees, elbows, and fingers were covered in colorful chalk dust, she said with a large smile, “It looks like home.” “I think so. Why don’t you enlarge the home together?” Hearing their teacher’s words, the students joined in the painting cheerfully, joy filling the air of the court.

Soon after, all the negative words started to destroy me. I cried myself to sleep late in the night and woke up with aching head the next morning, hardly able to get out of my room. Several days later, overwhelmed by depression, I refused to go to school and talk with someone and even refused food. It seemed that I was totally trapped in darkness. Thankfully, the magazines at hand helped to relieve my stress somehow. Everything changed from that day, when I happened to read an article.
I saw a quote in the journal. “Once you choose your way of life, be brave to stick it out and never return.” Reading it, I suddenly caught what it meant. I could either let myself down in the gossip or hug it as a chance to grow up and become better. So I reread the posts and reflected on my recent experiences. I realized that I was bothered because I cared so much about people’s bad comments that I lost heart and forgot my target. It’s time to face the situation bravely and stick to what I have always dreamed to do.

From that moment on, all I could do was observe. Dad parked the car quickly and jumped out, never saying a word, which was also highly unusual. I watched him run forward and kneel beside a squirrel, which was badly hurt. This small creature had just run into our car as it raced into the street. Perhaps it was gathering food for the winter on the way. Dad examined it for a second and immediately asked me to bring him a towel.
Then, carrying the squirrel, we drove to the nearest animal hospital. All the way, he kept silent while his bright blue eyes, usually filled with passion and life, had filled up and one teardrop escaped. After a long wait at the hospital, we were informed that the squirrel luckily survived. On the way back home, I carefully held the squirrel like holding a full glass of water. During the following days, under Dad’s considerate care, the squirrel gradually recovered. During the process, I found Dad’s soft side, and was deeply touched by his love and respect for all life and nature.

Night fell but there was no sign of Fritz. We went from neighbor to neighbor, house to house. Each shake of the head drove me to despair. “Please, bring Fritz home safe,” I wished lying in bed that night. But a week passed without him. Each afternoon I would rush out of school and run all the way home to ask if there was any news of Fritz. But when I burst through the door and into the house, I would be greeted only by silence and my mother’s sad smile.
Two weeks later, a call from a man brought us the great news. The man found the hungry and weak Fritz on the street and later got our phone number from the label on him. Immediately, my father and I were on the way to fetching Fritz. The moment I climbed out of the car, Fritz ran towards me like a wild pig. He slipped and quickly got up and slipped again before he regained his balance and jumped into my arms. I held him tightly as he kissed my face.

“John, let’s be teammates!” Tom said to me excitedly. I was so embarrassed that I couldn’t say a single word. “Sorry, Tom. But we have already formed the team,” William spoke in a low voice. So shocked was Tom that his eyebrows joined closely and his mouth was wide open. With my head hanging downwards, I avoided meeting his eyes. But I could still feel he was staring straight at me. It was Lily who stood up and broke the awkward silence. “Why not go and ask Ms Chow for her opinion?”
Hearing what Lily said, we agreed with her suggestion. Without any hesitation, we sprang into action and marched into the teachers’ office. In a gentle and sincere tone, Ms Chow said, “Well, in that case, you are allowed to have a team of four.” We felt hopeful about her reply and breathed a sigh of relief. With sincerity, I made my apology to Tom for the misunderstanding that I caused. Seeing the broad smile spread across his face, I could feel a sense of happiness rising in my mind. Hand in hand, the four of us headed for the classroom to begin our discussion happily.

Their dream came true and they decided to relax and move slowly along the long tubes and have some fun. They traveled all over the world and they found themselves even in the White House; they found it was fun to watch people secretly that couldn’t see them. They traveled through the long tubes to see things and people that they had always wanted to see. They got to watch the president who stayed up and they were the first ones to know about his new decisions. They had a very enjoyable experience.
But after a few days they started missing something and that was the feel of love. Life wasn’t all that fun without a hug from their mom and dad; they wanted to come home but how could they? There was only one way and that was through the heart. They had to want to come back so badly that it even meant they had to listen to the rules that Mom and Dad made and do research for schoolwork instead of playing computer games so much. They finally opened their eyes as their mother said it was time to get up for school.

Recently, a heated discussion about whether social media are good or bad was carried out in our class. Opinions varied on this topic.
Some students who supported social media believed that they could create more chances for people to communicate and share their experiences, which made it much easier to make more friends. Besides, social media built a bridge between people and the latest information. However, students who were against them believed that people’s privacy couldn’t be guaranteed and social media took up a lot of time, which led to fewer chances to embrace real life.
As far as I’m concerned, as long as we use social media reasonably, they will be of great help to us.

Finally it was time for bed story, and Mom asked her to choose a book. Mom said, “What about Cinderella?” “Did Cinderella have pimples too? Was her growing up also as difficult as mine?” Asha asked innocently. Her mother smiled and began to explain to her that in fairy tales characters faced greater difficulties in life. Asha showed a little interest in the book but when she saw the book was a little worn out with the old cover, she replied, “No. The book looks too old.”
Her mother asked her never to judge a book by its old cover but to pay attention to the details. Then Mom began to read the book. Soon Asha was deeply absorbed in the magical story. When Mom ended the story, she was moved to tears. Her mother explained, “We often judge people by their appearance. This is why everybody was commenting about you today. Never think about this pimple. It can never change the way you are.” So, an old book taught Asha a lesson for life: Never judge a book by its cover.

Dear fellow students,
With the popularity of takeaway, many students choose it as a regular meal. However, it is an unhealthy diet.
Firstly, lots of takeaway contains high fat and calorie which can make us put on weight. What’s more, without enough nutrition, our body will not function well in the long term. To solve this problem, we should keep a balanced diet. We’d better take in more grains, eggs, milk, fruit and vegetables to satisfy our daily needs. Home-made food is a good choice. We can sense the family love as well while we enjoy it.
Let’s have less takeaway from now on and form a healthy eating habit.

The big day finally arrived. Guided to the stage, I was left alone to begin my speech. I was afraid and my voice was trembling. Feeling dizzy, I took a deep breath as I struggled to wrap up my presentation. Gradually, I picked up confidence and delivered the speech smoothly. Blind as I was, I managed to interact with my audience with proper gestures and tones, who gave me a big round of applause. “Your story is well-organized, creative and inspiring,” a judge commented.
I went up to my teacher after the award ceremony. At the sight of me, she exclaimed in delight, “Congratulations! You are amazing!” Overwhelmed with excitement, I threw myself into her arms. “Thank you! Without your encouragement, I…” I was too excited to say a word, and tears of joy flooded my eyes. “You are more capable than you imagine!” she added. From then on, I was convinced that I could overcome the darkness and enjoy a glorious life, as long as I tried my best.

Just then Adam shouted on top of his voice, “Nick! Look, there’s a shark behind you!” Turning his head, Nick was shocked to find a black figure approaching him. Helpless and frightened, Nick swam towards the yacht like crazy. Tom quickly threw the rope down at Nick, who succeeded in grasping it. With all their strength, Tom and Adam pulled Nick up from the water before the shark could swallow him. But the hungry animal didn’t give up, swimming around the yacht for its dinner. Terrified as the three guys were, they knew they must do something to escape from the danger.
What they had to do was restart the yacht. Though wet through, Nick fetched the toolbox in no time. With the tools Adam carefully examined the engine, found out the exact cause of its failure and managed to get the engine working. Its wonderful sound had everyone on board burst into cheers. With Nick turning the steering wheel, the yacht left the danger zone at full speed, leaving the lonely shark far behind. The young guys waved happily at it, heading straight back.
