Do you use the library? Have you had to pay for returning a book late? Manylibraries charge a late fee. If you return a book after its due date, you pay a fine3.But this might be changing. Some say these fees stop some people from using thelibrary. And the point of libraries is to make books available. So we asked ourreaders what they think about late fees. Keep them? Or get rid of them? Here’swhat two kids had to say.
“Yes.”
“應(yīng)該?!?/p>
“Libraries should charge late fees. Do you enjoy the library? You can discovernew books there. But you might not get a chance if kids don’t return the books.Paying a fee will teach kids to be responsible. This will help when they get olderand have a job. Some borrowers return books late. The fees will help the library. The money can be used to make it a better place. So late fees are a must.”
“No.”
“不應(yīng)該?!?/p>
“Libraries should not charge latefees. Lots of people borrow a bookand return it late. It’s often amistake. Some people just need timeto finish the book. Fines at somelibraries have reached $50 for acouple of books. Many kids can’tafford that. And a late fee doesn’tmake people more responsible. Whatworks is sending reminders. Or libraries can provide more overnight book drops.”
