Aesop’s Fables is a collection of fables written around 600 BCE credited to Aesop, an enslaved person in ancient Greece. It also contains tales from India, Arabia, and Christianity, with many of the stories involving animals. Aesop is a fabulist who lived during 6th century BCE in the kingdom of Phrygia. According to historical records, he used to be an enslaved person in the house of a man named Iadmon on the island of Samos and was sold to numerous owners before gaining his freedom due to his wisdom and cleverness. After being freed, he frequented the royal court of Croesus, the king of Lydia. Aesop’s Fables is attributed to him.
