Shirley Temple

Born in 1928， Shirley Temple is an American film and television actress, and perhaps the most famous child actress in history. To make her seem even more precocious （早熟的）, her mother subtracted （減去） a year from Temple's age, and until she was 13 Temple thought she had been born in 1929. She began her screen career in 1932 at the age of four， and in 1934,skyrocketed to superstardom in Bright Eyes, a feature film designed specifically for her talents.She received a special Academy Juvenile Award in February 1935, and blockbusting super hits such as Curly Top and Heidi followed year after year during the mid to late 1930s. Licensed merchandise that capitalized on her wholesome image included dolls, dishes and clothing. From 1936 to 1938, Temple earned more than any other Hollywood star, starring in films that offered an hour and a half of optimism at the height of the Depression. Her movies were credited with restoring the Fox studio to profitability（盈利） when it had been on the point of going bankrupt.

Temple appeared in a few films of varying quality in her mid to late teens. As she lost her curls and began to grow curvy （有曲線的），she continued appearing in adult roles, with diminishing box office success, and stopped acting after her first divorce at 21. At 39, she remained active in Republican politics, and was named by President Nixon to serve as a US representative in the United Nations. In 1967, she ran unsuccessfully for the United States Congress. In 1988, she published her autobiography, Child Star. Temple is the recipient of many awards and honors including Kennedy Center Honors and a Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award.
