話說名詞的“兩面派”

英語(yǔ)中，有些名詞具有“兩面派”的特點(diǎn)，它們既可以用作可數(shù)名詞，又可以用作不可數(shù)名詞，其表達(dá)的含義也有所不同。

一、hair

hair用作可數(shù)名詞時(shí)指“一根根的頭發(fā)”，其復(fù)數(shù)形式為hairs;用作不可數(shù)名詞時(shí)指“毛發(fā)”，也可通指頭發(fā)。例如：

My mother has some? white hairs in her head. 我母親頭上有幾根白發(fā)。

What color is your hair？ 你的頭發(fā)是什么顏色的？

二、 fish

fish用作可數(shù)名詞，指魚的尾數(shù)時(shí)單數(shù)和復(fù)數(shù)形式相同，如：one fish一尾魚，two fish（兩尾魚）;指魚的種類時(shí)可用復(fù)數(shù)形式fishes，如：two fishes（兩種魚）。

fish用作不可數(shù)名詞時(shí)無(wú)復(fù)數(shù)形式，意思是“魚肉”。例如：

There is some fish on the table.桌上有一些魚肉。

三、chicken

chicken用作可數(shù)名詞時(shí)意為“（?。╇u”，其復(fù)數(shù)形式為chickens; 用作不可數(shù)名詞時(shí)意為“雞肉”。例如：

It looks like a chicken . But l don’t think chickens can swim.

它看起來像雞，但是我認(rèn)為雞不會(huì)游泳。

Help yourself to some chicken please.請(qǐng)吃點(diǎn)雞肉。

四、glass

glass用作可數(shù)名詞時(shí)意為“玻璃杯”，其復(fù)數(shù)形式為glasses;用作不可數(shù)名詞時(shí)意為“玻璃”。例如：

There are two glasses of milk on the table. 桌上有兩玻璃杯牛奶。

These bottles are made of glass. 這些瓶子是玻璃制成的。

五、orange

orange用作可數(shù)名詞時(shí)意為“橘子;橙子”，其復(fù)數(shù)形式為oranges;用作不可數(shù)名詞時(shí)意為“橙汁”。例如：

There are some oranges on the tree .樹上有一些橘子。

Would you like another bottle of orange？ 你想再喝一瓶橙汁嗎？

六、room

room用作可數(shù)名詞時(shí)意為“房間”， 其復(fù)數(shù)形式為rooms; 用作不可數(shù)名詞時(shí)為“空間，余地”。例如：

We had better find a room to live in.我們最好找個(gè)房間住下。

There isn’t any room on the bus. 公共汽車上沒空間了。
