Hayao Miyazaki was born in January， 1941， and he joined Toei Animation （東映動(dòng)畫公司） in 1963. The 77?year?old director is the latest winner of Career Achievement Award， which is awarded by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. He received the honor in January， 2019.

For more than 50 years， Miyazaki has made 11 lively films. As a storyteller， he tells tales that are full of mystery and imagination. In his films， wizards turn into birds of grey， young girls are changed overnight into 90?year?old women， greedy parents are changed into pigs.

As an artist， Miyazaki is known for his lively colors and pictures. Grasslands are covered with flowers and shadowed by clouds. Rocky hills rise toward snow?covered mountain peaks. Miyazaki still makes his films by hand， which gives them a special appearance.

Miyazakis films often remind people that the earth is weak. In Princess Mononoke（《幽靈公主》）， villagers destroy forests to provide fuel for an iron factory. By the end of the film， the whole world is in ruins. This shows the fight between men and nature.

Whats more， there is no clear good or bad in the film. The witch?like characters in Spirited Away （《千與千尋》） and Howls Moving Castle （《哈爾的移動(dòng)城堡》） dont seem so bad once you get to know them. Miyazaki said he saw the 21st century as a complex time. Simple ideas cant be accepted， even in childrens films.
