Since it was found, western scholars have paid many attentions to this inscription and always collated it.Based on the cuneiform of this inscription and consulted its several translations of western scholars, present study aims to offer a more reliable Chinese version.

The giant mythοlοgy is signi fi cant in ancient Ιsraelite civilizatiοn. The incredible size and viοlatiοn of giants are wide-spread in ancient Israelite culture and formed unique motifs. The authors of ancient Israelite literature consciously made use of the motifs and created a tradition of expressing evils through the image of giant so that they were able to express their opinions to national religion and historical characters.Furthermore, by taking advantage of such mythological system, the authors were also able to conduct deep explοre οn the tensiοn between sοul and fl esh. Thus, the ancient Hebrew giant mythοlοgical system is a typical complex of the ideologies of evils’ origin, conceptions of righteousness, theological and philosophic discussion. Such system is unique in the following aspects: the mysterious origin, outstanding literary features and marvelous depth in philosophic ideas. Therefore, this research on such mythological system is οf great signi fi cance.

Arkadia was a polytheistic society, in which there were three Pan-Arkadian deities, Zeus Lykaios,Pan and Despoina. In Arkardia, Zeus Panhellenios was given regional meanings, and became a symbol of the Arkadian ethnic group and country. Pan and Despoina were Arkadian indigenous deities, but their developments were different. Pan was popular in Arkadia, as well as in other Greek regions, and became a Panhellenic deity. Despoina was only limited within Arkadia, and maintained the Pan-Arkadian status to the end. These three deities together formed the Pan-Arkadian religious system, and also became the distinct symbols of Arkadian ethnic identity and regional culture.

Fredegund was a regent Queen Mother of the Merovingian dynasty. She established the regency in the Neustria kingdom based on her identity of the mother and guardian of the young king. With a large amount of property from her deceased husband, Fredegund was able to provide enough grants to reward the nobilities which ensured her to maintain a lasting stability of her regency. During the period of her regency, Fredegund dealt with the bishops and aristocrats skillfully and spared no efforts to combat against the Neustria and Burgundy kings. Her achievements laid the foundations for her son Clothar II to reunify Frank once again later. While Fredegund has been criticized much for her political strategy and means, her contribution to the Merovingian dynasty should be fully recognized.

Retainer seen in State Qin and the Qin Dynasty as a social group came into being along with the transition from king-aristocracy system to emperor-bureaucracy system. Among the retainers, the position called(家嗇夫) is a product of Shang Yang(商鞅) reform that allows the ranked nobility to have dependents. In State Qin by the end of Warring States period, a common nobility with a title such as Wu-da-fu(五大夫) was allowed to have family clerks. By the Qin Dynasty, however, the same privilege was limited to people holding Qing(卿) title and the same privilege was further restricted to marquises.Based on the materials seen in bamboo scripts, retainers were common in late Warring States period and Qin Dynasty. The retainers could be recommended to become members of the bureaucracy. When the bureaucratic system was further developed, the retainers gradually disappeared.

The unearthed pre-Qin to Han materials containing evaded terms such as inscriptions on oracle bones,bronze, and bamboo or silk are valuable for the study of literature and history. Meanwhile, since the practice of vocabulary taboo was far from regulated in those times, usage of these type of materials requires carful cross examination with other evidences. Through a close examination of the unearthed and other existing materials containing the evaded terms, this paper concludes that(俗諱, evading certain terms by custom) happened in the primitive society already, while(敬諱, evading certain terms for reasons of respect) occurred during the Shang Dynasty, developed in the Western Zhou period, and became popular in the Qin and Han Dynasties.

Ιn sοme histοrical recοrds, it is said that after the uni fi catiοn, the First Empire οf the Qin Dynasty issued an order to collect all weapons throughout the country. Scholars have been debating over the veri fi catiοn οf these recοrds. This study argues that the said οrder needs tο be interpreted tοgether with the order to destruct the major cities in the regions held by previous eastern states. Sima Qian separated the connection between these two orders in his(《史記》) that led to later controversy. The First Emperor’s goal was to destroy the major cities in the eastern regions and, meanwhile, take over all the arms existed in those cities to terminate any possibility of these cities to build up regional military capacity. The same policy was not carried out in other regions of the country.

In addition to sharing the common heritages from earlier tradition, the(節(jié)鎮(zhèn)) system of the Liao dynasty was different from those of the Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties in several aspects. As a prοvincial level gοvernmental οf fi cial cοmbined with bοth military and civilian administrative authοrities,the governor of aruns its anchor prefecture and some offshoot prefectures as well. The record given byconcerning the power of thegovernor is not always accurate. Sinceas the highest level regional government listened to the central government directly,the Liao actually governmental structure can be described as central government,, prefecture,county. This structure can be understood as a result of the combination of thetradition of the Five Dynasties and the decentralized politics of the Liao itself.

In his important book(《大學衍義補》）, Qiu Jun(丘濬) presented a carefully designed plan fοr οcean transpοrtatiοn. Ιn fi rst glance, the purpοse οf this plan was tο resume the οcean transportation as a supplement to the river transportation from the southeast to the capital, which was a breakthrough already since the Ming had ceased ocean transportation for many years. It had taken the national strategy under consideration in essence. Along with the circulation of this book, this suggestion of Qiu Jun became a major reference in the court discussion about the ocean transportation that meanwhile constituted an evidence to proof the(經(jīng)世) orientation of the learning of the four classics in the Ming era.

The Great Ritual Controversy happened in Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty caused great concern in Choson kingdom. The King dispatched envoys to Beijing constantly to support Emperor Shizong, which helped the King to enhance his legitimacy and to achieve closer Sino-Korean relationship. Meanwhile, the Chοsοn cοmments οf the Great Ritual Cοntrοversy re fl ect the different characteristics οf Chοsοn pοwer structure cοncerning the mοnarch and the schοlar-οf fi cials frοm the Ming Dynasty. Because there were several kings of Choson inherited the crown based on position other than crown prince, the Great Ritual Controversy of the Ming kept to be relevant to the Choson court and the King Injo’s “Ritual Controversy”turned out to be a Choson version of the Great Ritual Controversy. These developments caused academic attention of Choson scholars such as Jeong Yak-yong.

The whole process of compilation took twenty years and several editiοns were prοduced befοre the 150 vοlume fi nal versiοn was eventually fi nished in 1791.Αlthοugh the in fl uence οf this bοοk within Chοsοn was nοt signi fi cant, as the οnly οf fi cial cοmpiled chronology and biography style Song history in Choson, the importance of this book in the cultural history and historiography of Korea is remarkable.
