Do you need motivation for studying? If you ever feel like studying is pointless, you may find inspiration2 in the following tips. Read on to discover what your problems really are!
TIP 1: GET WISE!
Youve probably heard the old saying “Ill never use this knowledge in the real world.” Its time to set the record straight3 once and for all4—that saying is completely false! Why? You see, you may not believe that youll need English later in life, but youll need it in college, and youll certainly need it to succeed in the world.
When you start feeling like studying is a drag, it might help to start thinking about the reason youre studying in the first place. The work you do now is really important, even though its probably hard to see sometimes. In fact, your studying is really what will form the foundation for your future. Right now you are probably being forced to study subjects that dont interest you at all. It may seem cruel and unfair now, but its really important and necessary.
TIP 2: GAIN CONFIDENCE!
Most students have a special talent in one particular area, so they enjoy studying in that subject. The problem comes when they avoid doing the other subjects. Sound familiar?
The good news is that you dont need to love everything. Just pick one area you love and become the“expert” in your school. Get a serious attitude!Once you become the expert in your field, you will gain confidence in yourself and start thinking of all your least favorite subjects.
Some kids get good grades because of their reputations. The teacher likes them better and meanwhile, they will work harder.
TIP 3: GET COMPETITIVE5!
If you have a competitive spirit, you can have a lot of fun with this one.
If you think youre at a disadvantage to other students, you can turn things around by getting a competitive attitude.
Think of every subject as a challenge and set out to do better than anybody else. Try to surprise everyone—including the teacher—by working hard.
TIP 4: CHART6 YOUR PROCESS.
Design your own map of completed classes and post it somewhere that is visible daily. Theres a certain satisfaction that comes with watching your goals be accomplished7. When times get hard, you can always turn to your chart and see how far youve come.
TIP 5: GET YOUR EYE ON THE PRIZE!
If you get bored just thinking about studying, then you may need to focus on setting and reaching goals.
For instance, if you are having trouble getting started on a big goal, then divide your goal into steps. Then, reward yourself each time you finish a step successfully.
There are many ways to reward. You may want to create a dream box with pictures of big prizes, like the picture of the college of your dreams, or the notes with the names of the CDs you want. Fill the box with the objects of your dreams and make a habit of looking at them often.
TIP 6: GET PARTNERS!
Find a friend or relative who has similar interests or who would enjoy hearing about your studies and let them know whats going on in your classes. Discuss what you learn. Youll understand the material better when you have a chance to explain it out loud and will be motivated to stay on task in order to keep up with the conversation.
