【摘要】高中英語人教版教材多年來發(fā)揮了重要作用。同時,教學工作者也需不斷優(yōu)化教材,使之充分體現(xiàn)國家課程標準要求,培養(yǎng)高中學生,為高校輸送品學兼優(yōu)的畢業(yè)生。

高中英語教材人教版必修三第一單元的Using language Reading and writing—A Sad Love Story 描述了中國情侶在西方情人節(jié)(Valentines Day)故事。由于在情人節(jié)沒能交換禮物,男主人公Li Fang更因電視中國的七巧情人節(jié)牛郎與織女(A sad Chinese story about lost love)故事而傷感。為了襯托Li Fang的傷心,本節(jié)內(nèi)容引用了中國古老的牛郎與織女的故事,其中織女在人間認識凡人牛郎并相愛,未與家人溝通便非法成婚,并生下一對兒女。最后因王母娘娘反對織女與牛郎結(jié)婚才受罰。今天眾多中學生對此傳統(tǒng)愛情故事并不熟悉,更不明白這它的真正寓意。此例欠妥,需要正確指導。
文章是以Li Fang 與女友HuJin未能在情人節(jié)約會有感而發(fā),而傳說的牛郎與織女應是支撐因故而異地相戀的故事更為貼切。故事與文中男主人公Li Fang 和女友HuJin的情節(jié)并無太多的共同之處,僅是比較牽強地把西方與中國兩種不同文化的情人節(jié)拼湊一起,以便同時給學生輸入語言知識與文化意識。
HuJin許諾和Li Fang在咖啡廳見面,但未如約,Li Fang就猜疑她和朋友們或在嘲笑他?!癝he could be with her friends right now laughing at him.” “He had looked forward to meeting her all day,and now he was alone with his roses and chocolates,like a fool. ” Li Fang越想越生氣,斷然扭頭回家,“I guess HuJin doesnt love me. Ill just throw these flowers and chocolates away.I dont want them to remind me of her.”So he did. 最后甚至扔掉情人節(jié)禮物——玫瑰花和巧克力。而HuJin依然拿著要送給Li Fang的情人節(jié)禮物,在茶館癡癡等待。最后一段把問題拋給了Li Fang,也拋給了讀者,“What would he do ?He had thrown away her Valentines gifts! She would never fogive him.This would not be a happy Valentines Day!”可以看出Li Fang認為禮物比見面重要!文中沒有交待事先雙方約會的地點,無法確定是誰走錯地方。既使是HuJin的錯,Li Fang也應該理解包容,而文中第一段“well,he was not going to hold his breath for her to apologize. He would drown his sadness in coffee.”這本不是一個清醒的舉動,而后更不應扔掉玫瑰花和巧克力。
兩情若是相惜,HuJin應不計較Li Fang是否送她禮物,而Li Fang卻十分在意。種種表現(xiàn)讓讀者認為是Li Fang記錯地點,但在文中沒有明確表述,讓師生難以判斷,影響的情感態(tài)度教育。若在文中增加結(jié)局,就能較好培養(yǎng)學生的情感價值觀,例如:He didnt think HuJin would love him any longer. His world was totally dark. However,to his surprise,HuJin ran to greet him with beautiful roses saying “Happy Valentines Day”. What should he do then? Would she forgive him?
Finally he was bravely honest with her. HuJin knew he had made a mistake about the place to meet. HuJin forgave him,“Honesty is the best policy. You have given me a priceless gift today. ”The couple stared at each other and laughed. They loved each other much better.
教材也不是十全十美的,需要不斷優(yōu)化,在注重語言知識、語言技能、文化意識輸入的同時,我們也應該注意情感態(tài)度的培養(yǎng),引導學生正確的價值觀。
