（2） appreciate習(xí)慣上不用“人”作賓語，其后只能接“事”作賓語。（注意：這與thank 的用法恰恰相反）

正：He thanked her for her kindness.

誤：He thanked her kindness.

（3） appreciate后接if 或when從句時習(xí)慣上要先接it，而不直接跟if或when引導(dǎo)的從句。

I would appreciate it if you would help me with it.

如果你能幫助我做這事，我會十分感激。

We really appreciate it when she offered to help.

她來幫忙了，我們十分感激。

（4） 表示感激的程度，可用deeply， highly， （very） much等副詞修飾。

I deeply appreciate your kindness.

注意：當(dāng)much修飾appreciate時，只能置于其前，而不能置于其后，但very much卻可以。如：

loud表示“大聲；響亮”，可用作形容詞或副詞。

（2） 用作副詞（與loudly同義），一般只與動詞speak， talk， laugh， sing等連用，且必須放在這些動詞之后。

Dont talk so loudly （loud）. 別這么大聲講話。

注意：loudly比用作副詞的loud使用范圍更廣，它除與 speak，talk，laugh等動詞連用外，還可與其他表示聲響的動詞連用，且可以放在這些動詞之前或之后。

Anyone who has ever lost keys or money will have wished for a simple but effective way to make sure it never happens again. A US company is trying to help.

Using a tiny microchip which is implanted （植入） into the arm， they have come up with a replacement for cash or credit cards that cannot be left at home or dropped on the bus.

The Verichip is about the size of a grain of rice and works using radio frequency identification technology. At a shop， a radio frequency “reader” would send a signal and the chip in your arm would respond with your own identity number. That would give the “reader” your financial information， and money could be taken directly from your accounts and you wouldnt even have to reach for your wallet.

The company also hopes to include other information on the chip， such as medical records， building security codes （社保密碼） and passwords， making life even easier.

But not everyone is happy with the developments. Some say that a lot can go wrong with the chip. A clever thief could build a fake reader that would steal your information without you knowing. So your money could still be stolen. Privacy is a big problem， too. Stores， or even the government， only need to track the chip to find out what you buy， how much you spend and where you go.

The State Schools and Private Schools in the UK

For many parents， one of the most important things is to ensure their children have a good education.

Britains education system is well known around the world. Thousands of students come from overseas to be educated in the UK in many different places including private schools， tutorial colleges， and international schools.

Private schools like Harrow and Eton are expensive to get into but what else makes them different from state schools？

There are two differences between a private school and a state school. The most important one is that parents have to pay fees to go to a private school. Whereas a state school is free of charge.

But the other difference is that private schools in this country are not obliged to follow the national state governed curriculum， or even to take the state examinations. So they have a much greater degree of freedom.

The pupils at private schools are treated just like pupils in every other school including the state schools in England. They are not pampered； very far from it， they are expected to behave well， to work hard； they are punished if they dont.

英國教育體系的知名度是眾所周知的。每年數(shù)千名來自海外的學(xué)子在英國不同的地方接受教育，包括私立學(xué)校、補習(xí)學(xué)院、國際學(xué)校。

像哈羅和伊頓這樣的私立學(xué)校需要支付昂貴的學(xué)費才能進入。但什么使私立學(xué)校與公立學(xué)校不同呢？

英國的公立學(xué)校和私立學(xué)校之間主要有兩個不同點。首先，父母必須為孩子支付學(xué)費才能進入私立學(xué)校，而公立學(xué)校是免費的。

另一個不同是，私立學(xué)校沒有義務(wù)遵循國家的教學(xué)課程，甚至不采用國家考試，因此，學(xué)校有更大的自由度。

英國私立學(xué)校的學(xué)生跟公立學(xué)校學(xué)生都受到同等對待。他們不會享受任何寵愛，甚至人們期望他們表現(xiàn)得更好，更加努力。如果沒有達到要求，他們會被懲罰。

（PS：美式英語中“Public school”就是所謂的“公立學(xué)校”，經(jīng)費絕大部分由政府補助。私立學(xué)校稱為“Private school”。）
