    Ted在Hannah“聲色俱厲”的勸導(dǎo)下終于走上正途,積極地參加各項(xiàng)活動,他還打算重拾志愿者的工作,這讓Laura欣慰不已。

Laura: Ted? Is that you? Do my eyes 1)deceive me? What are you doing outside?

Ted: Yeah, yeah. ①Ive come out of my shell. Let the 2)razzing begin.

Laura: Im just wondering if this is the real deal or if youre going to suddenly disappear in a 3)puff of smoke.

Ted: Nope, its real. Hannah 4)popped by last week.

    Laura: Oh, really?

Ted: ②Dont play dumb, young lady. She told me that youd been talking to Martin.

Laura: I may have mentioned a thing or two to him about how you were down in the dumps.

Ted: Id like to say that you were being unfair, but after Hannahs talking to, I realized that youd been right about everything.

    Laura: Sorry…come again?

Ted: Haha, I told you you were right, all right?

Laura: Thats music to my ears.

Ted: Knock it off! ③Besides, I cant believe you threw me to the wolves like that. Hannah is terrifying!

Laura: Haha, she is definitely that sometimes. So what did Hannah say to make you change your mind?

Ted: ④She basically just threw down the 5)gauntlet, insulted my 6)masculinity, and then gently talked some sense into me.

    Laura: Howd she managed that?

Ted: ⑤She asked me where I was going to draw the line. Would it be when I stopped going to class? When I couldnt remember what my friends looked like? When I ended up with chronic health problems for the rest of my life?

    Laura: Makes sense.

Ted: ⑥And then she asked me what Id think if the tables were turned.

    Laura: How so?

Ted: She asked how Id feel if you were the one who never left your dorm, only ate junk food delivery, and basically lived in your sweats.

    Laura: And?

Ted: Well…Id think you were either sick or depressed.

Laura: Thats basically what Ive been wondering about you. You had me scared sick for a while there.

Ted: ⑦I know, and Hannah read me the riot act over that one! Like I said—shes scary.

Laura: ⑧Im just glad that she was able to light a fire under you.

Ted: She really did make some good points.

    Laura: Like?

Ted: Remember how I said that I couldnt think of any physical activity Id enjoy?

    Laura: Sure.

Ted: Turns out that wasnt entirely true.

Laura: I would 7)bloody well hope not.

Ted: Hey, 8)lay off and let me tell the story! Laura: All right, all right! Im all ears.

Ted: So she started asking me questions about all these sports and things Id never even thought of.

    Laura: Example?

Ted: Rock climbing,9)squash, gardening—stuff like that.

    Laura: Did you say “gardening”?

Ted: Yeah, crazy, eh? The biology department grows a 10)veggie garden on campus and donates all the produce to the food bank. Its great because Ive been wanting to get back into volunteering.

    Laura: Thats so great, Ted!

Ted: I know, right?! And Im even meeting some really cool people. Its great to meet 11)like-minded folks in the real world.

Ted: Its good to be back!
