Commercial Application Test of Ethylbenzene Dehydrogenation Catalyst CS-12 Passed Appraisal

“The commercial test of the catalyst CS-12 for ethylbenzene dehydrogenation to styrene” jointly performed by SINOPEC Shanghai Petrochemical Research Institute (SPRI) and SINOPEC Guangzhou Branch Company (GBC) had recently passed the technical appraisal organized by SINOPEC Science and Technology Development Division.

SPRI started in 2004 a bench-scale test of the catalyst and after studying the catalyst composition and preparation process had finally developed the GS-12 catalyst featuring high product yield, large processing capability and good stability. Starting January 2010 this catalyst was applied in commercial scale on the 80 kt/a styrene unit at GBC. After having been serving online for 30 months, this catalyst operating under a high load (105%) had shown its excellent reaction performance to set a best record in the history. According to comments of experts attending the appraisal meeting, the application of this catalyst should be accelerated, since the GS-12 catalyst has its ingenuity nature with independent intellectual property rights.
