Fan,a nobleman of the State of Jin,became a fugitive.Someone noticed a bell in Fan’s house and wanted to carry it off on his back.But the bell was too big for him.When he tried to knock the bell into pieces with a hammer,it gave out a loud clanging sound.He was afraid that someone would hear the noise and catch him,so he immediately covered his own ears with his hands.

To worry aboutotherpeople hearing the noise is understandable,but to cover his own ears with his hands to prevent other people from hearing is absurd.

晉國有個(gè)貴族范氏，他逃亡在外。有個(gè)人看到范氏家里有一口鐘，想要把它偷走。因?yàn)殓姶蟊巢粍?dòng)，就用錘子來毀壞它。鐘響起來，偷鐘人怕別人聽到后來抓他，于是用手捂住耳朵。

擔(dān)心別人聽到聲音是對(duì)的；但是擔(dān)心別人聽到而把自己的耳朵捂起來是可笑的。
