Schindler's List

For: A hard watch， but vital view into the atrocities21) committed during the Holocaust22)

Few holocaust movies capture the true feelings during this difficult time other than this Steven Spielberg classic. In a movie that was voted one of the best movies ever made， Spielberg tells the tale of a German man who dedicated his life to saving Jews from the concentration camps23) in Germany during WWII. Shot in black and white， this movie has a documentary feel to it. Be aware the horrific crimes by the Nazis are depicted in very graphic detail and this is definitely a use-the-whole-box-of-tissues kind of tear-jerker24).

In the Heat of the Night

For: A look at the racist attitudes that were held by many in the late 60s

When a murder hits a small southern town， extremely racist white southern police Chief Bill Gillespie is forced to team up with one-man civil-rights movement black homicide25) detective Sidney Poitier. This stark26) police drama deals with racism as both the cause and effect of a seemingly incidental murder in small-town Sparta， Miss. It is even cited as being \"culturally significant\" by the United States Library of Congress.
