Because of the hated competition of athletics， the Games took on the performance of perfection， as well as greatness of Pity. In a sense， the pity is one of the indispensable attractions of athletics.Actually， it is the pity that allows us to fully appreciate what a successful life is， to deeply understand what a colourful beauty is， even makes us realize how far we have fallen behind， so as to strive and catch up with the developed. 外編點(diǎn)評(píng)：“pity”用在這里不太合適，只有在為他人極端惡劣或不太樂(lè)觀的境遇感到同情時(shí)我們才會(huì)用到這個(gè)詞，換成“regret”會(huì)好很多，尤其是當(dāng)我們談及自己的情感的時(shí)候。翻譯時(shí)應(yīng)當(dāng)注意不要遺漏形容詞的形容對(duì)象，如“the developed”?！癐t was witnessed”換成“we saw”或“the world witnessed”會(huì)更好。譯文整體上不錯(cuò)，稍加修改，用詞再經(jīng)斟酌，會(huì)是一篇更好的譯文。

It is regret that helps us enjoy the various flavors of victory; it is regret that gets us a profound understanding of the beauty of life in this colorful world and it is also regret that enables us to discover our inferiority， so that we could make continuous self-improvement and press forward.

外編點(diǎn)評(píng)：這是篇優(yōu)秀的譯文，不過(guò)有幾個(gè)小問(wèn)題?！癷mbed”通常用被動(dòng)式，應(yīng)該說(shuō)“was also imbedded in our memory”，這個(gè)詞用在這里太正式，最好換成“l(fā)eft us many sentimental regrets”?！癉etermines”應(yīng)當(dāng)換成“means”，因?yàn)椤癲etermine”暗指的兩者之間的聯(lián)系更直接更有力度，語(yǔ)氣要比“mean”強(qiáng)很多，用在這不太合適。
