“Unpredictable fate and lucky meeting by chance at the end of the rainbow will eventually lead to surprising encounters.”
Fate is like a lamp in the dark, although it is small, it is enough to illuminate the road under people’s feet. It gives us opportunity, strength and courage. It is a companion for our growth, and a reward in the journey of life. I am convinced of this, and I believe that my encounter with China stems from the interweaving of fate and luck, and the reason why I can have this fate is due to the proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative.
In short, the Belt and Road Initiative focuses on promoting connectivity and international cooperation, including people-to-people exchanges. Since it was proposed, the Belt and Road Initiative has provided more students with opportunities to break through themselves. I am one of them.
Study in China was my biggest goal in junior high school. At that time, I made studying abroad my top priority after the college entrance examination. Later, when the dream came true, I once thought it was just a fantasy, and it wasn’t until I set foot on Chinese land that I believed it was real.
In the journey of fulfilling my dreams, I experienced a spring when everything was revived and flowers were in full bloom; experienced the scorching sun and thunderstorm in summer; I had also experienced the autumn of blue sky and red leaves and winter that was quiet and frozen for a vast land.I have pleasant, sad, unexpected, unforgettable memories... Eventually, I transformed into a mature college student and a trusted senior sister for many younger students.
I remember that when I first took a specialized course, I couldn’t keep up with the pace at all, not because the teacher spoke too quickly, but because I was not familiar with the technical terms. As a result, I could understand some of the words spoken by the teacher, but when they were connected, they became an incomprehensible string of words. Later, I looked up the technical terms and sentences one by one, and then copied them all in my notebook, and gradually adapted to the rhythm of the specialized course, and now I am proud to study with Chinese students. I found university life really interesting, in addition to academic knowledge, there are many activities and competitions related to personal interests, cultural exchanges and social practice to participate in, I signed up as soon as I was free, although I didn’t get a lot of good results, at least I gained friendships, and the process of preparing for the competition itself was a very interesting thing. These activities not only add color to our daily study life, but also help us know ourselves, improve ourselves, and make us become a better man.
In these days of studying abroad, in addition to the gains in my studies, I have had many unexpected gains in my life. Being in a foreign country, it is necessary to explore and try various aspects such as food, customs, and social rules.Personally speaking, the best way to learn is to have the courage to try, I am a person who wants to try, so after tasting a lot of Chinese food and meeting classmates from different countries, I have gained a lot of life experience and life perspectives, broadened my horizons and gradually became more open and inclusive.
I also improved my language skills. Living in China, you need to use Chinese to communicate and learn every day. Although I had studied Chinese for a while before coming to China, I still felt that there was a language barrier when I first came here, because there was a difference between learning and practice. Also, there are so many dialects in China that I don’t understand even though everyone tries to speak Mandarin. Fortunately, I do not give up easily, and in the training day by day, I gradually realized the relationship between dialects, and slowly understood the non-standard Mandarin of teachers and classmates.
In addition to this, I have also learned problem-solving and independent living skills during this wonderful journey. In a foreign country, of course, I had to deal with various chores by myself, such as handling bank affairs and arranging trips, which honed my organizational skills, judgment skills, problemsolving skills and self-management skills. Therefore, I have now learned how to make plans, make decisions, and respond to challenges and difficulties more objectively. These skills not only help me develop my resilience, but also help me grow into a more mature and self-directed person, which will be very beneficial for my future personal and professional development.
From a novice in life to now knowing how to control myself and weigh the pros and cons, these experiences and gains will become unforgettable memories for me and a valuable asset on my life path, providing the most powerful support for me to face future challenges and pursue bigger goals.
In a word, I think my childhood dream is very remarkable. If it was not for the ignorant dream at the beginning, I would not be as mature as I am now, of course, I would like to thank the Belt and Road Initiative and my dear alma mater that can make my dream come true.
The great and beautiful China, after meeting you, my life has become so colorful and has gained so much. Thank you for giving me this precious life experience. This wonderful experience will be something I will never forget.
