    “MSC China” Completed and Delivered

    On October 9,the 24,000 TEU very large container ship “MSC China”,built by CSSC Jiangnan Shipbuilding for CSSC (Hongkong)Shipping and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC),was completed and delivered at the CSSC Changxing Shipbuilding Base one month ahead of schedule.This is another achievement of the comprehensive implementation of the operational leasing strategy after the delivery of “MSC Claude Girardet” in Hudong Zhonghua on September 11,and also demonstrates the profound skills of Jiangnan Shipbuilding in the shipbuilding field of very large container ships.

    Designed by Hudong Zhonghua,the ship was classified with DNV.With an overall length of 399.99m,a molded breadth of 61.5m,a molded depth of 33.2m,the ship’s deck area nears 4 standard football fields.The maximum number of stack container layers can reach 25 layers,equivallent to a 22-story height,capable of loading 24116 containers,dubbed as a super cargo carrier.The ship is equipped with a hybrid Scrubber desulfurization device,as well as a unique small bulbous bow,large diameter propeller and energy-saving conduit.At the same time,the air-bubbling dragreducing system is adopted for the first time to not only effectively reduce the total energy consumption of the ship,but also reduce the corresponding total carbon emissions by 3%-4%,which can be reduced by more than 6000 tons per year.The PTO system adopted for the first time can effectively reduce fuel consumption,optimize fuel consumption and ship EEDI,reduce greenhouse gas emissions,known as the “green giant”.

    Jiangnan Shipbuilding has always been adhering to the construction concept of “one ship should be better than the previous one”,and tries their best to meet the reasonable needs of the shipowner as far as possible to ensure the cycle time construction and continuous improvement of quality.Before the ship left the dock,the engine room polishing had been completed,the generators in the four core areas had returned to the top,and the scaffolding had been dismantled,laying a solid foundation for directly starting up generator after undocking.The reasonable allocation of production resources enabled the ship to end the generator stratup in 15 days after undocking in June,end the air test in 1 month,post-sea trial return to the shipyard in 2 months,ship delivery in 3 months,further consolidating Jiangnan Shipbuilding very large container ship “843” construction cycle,setting a new benchmark for the shiupbuilding of subsequent ships.“To suit the ship use requirements,the ship was delivered one month ahead of schedule.In the construction process,Jiangnan Shipbuilding gave us full understanding and full cooperation,which made us deeply understand the speed and quality of Jiangnan shipbuilding,” the shipowner's representative praised.

    Up to now,Jiangnan Shipbuilding and Hudong Zhonghua,two Shanghai shipbuilding companies under CSSC,have completed and delivered 13 of the world's largest 24,000 TEU very large container ships,8 of which are customized for MSC.To this end,Shanghai has become the global R&D and shipbuilding center of very large container ships,and MSC has also become one of the important strategic partners of CSSC.
