When we stridez or stroll3 across the frozen4 lake，

We place our feet where they have never been.

We walk upon the unwalked. But we are uneasy5.

Who is down there but our old teachers？

Water that once could take no human6 weight-

We were students thcn-holds up our feet，

And goes on ahead ofus for a milc.

Beneath7 us the teachers， and around us the stillness8

當(dāng)我們跨過，或漫步經(jīng)過冰凍的湖面，

我們把腳放在從來去過的地方。

我們走在不能行走的地方。但我們感到不安。

誰在那里，除了我們的老教師？

水，曾經(jīng)不能承受人類的體重

我們當(dāng)時是學(xué)生——抬起我們的腳，

向前走了一英里。

在我們之下是老師們，我們的四周一片寂靜。
