Experts say that more than 1 billion young people cannot hear well.
They are between 12 and 34 years old. Young people often hear a loudcontinuous noise in their ears. Their hearing tests look normal. Later, their hearingtest results are worse.
Experts know reasons why this situation happens. Young people listen to theirheadphones. They also go to concerts. The music is too loud. Sometimes, music inrestaurants is loud, too.
Decibels1 tell us how loud something is. The sound of a food mixer is 85decibels. The sound of a train is 100 decibels. Experts say that it is safe to listen to85 decibels at work.
Sometimes we can lose hearing when we hear something very loud only once.Loud noise kills the cells2 in our ears. We cannot fix the situation.
