Almost all cultures celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of another in some way. Different cultures celebrate the beginning of a new year in different ways， and at different times on the calendar.

In Western countries， people usually celebrate New Year at midnight on December 31st or January 1st. People may go to parties， sometimes dressed in formal clothes， and they may drink champagne （香檳） at midnight. During the first minutes of the new year， people cheer and wish each other happiness for the year ahead. But some cultures prefer to celebrate the new year by waking up early to watch the sunrise. Friendship Day is celebrated every year on the first Sunday in the month of August. People give their loved ones or friends friendship bracelets （手鐲） and other gifts to celebrate their friendship. The culture of friendship bracelets is as old as even thousands of years.

Now many young people are traveling around the world on their own， not because they have no one to travel with， but because they prefer to go alone.

Kristina Wegscheider from California first traveled alone when she was at college and believes that it is something everyone should do at least once in their life. “It opens up your mind to new things and pushes you out of your comfort zone.” Wegscheider has visited 46 countries covering all seven continents.
