    The Hill We Climb我們攀登的山

    阿曼達(dá)?戈?duì)柭?/p>

When day comes we ask ourselves:

Where can we find light in this never-ending shade?

The loss we carry, a sea we must wade.

Weve braved the belly of the beast.

Weve learned that quiet isnt always peace.

And the norms and notions of what just is isnt always justice.

And yet, the dawn is ours before we knew it.

    Somehow we do it.

    Somehow weve weathered and wit-nessed

A nation that isnt broken, but simply unfinished.

We, the successors of a country and a time

    Where a skinny black girl

Descended from slaves and raised by a single mother

    Can dream of becoming president

Only to find herself reciting for one.

And yes, we are far from polished, far from pristine,

But that doesnt mean we are striving to form a union that is perfect.

We are striving to forge our union with purpose,

To compose a country committed to all cultures, colors, characters, and conditions of man.

And so we lift our gazes not to what stands between us,

    But what stands before us.

We close the divide because we know to put our future first.

We must first put our differences aside.

We lay down our arms so we can reach out our arms to one another.

We seek harm to none and harmony for all.

Let the globe, if nothing else,

    Say this is true

    That even as we grieved, we grew;

    That even as we hurt, we hoped;

    That even as we tired, we tried;

That we will forever be tied together victorious.

Not because we will never again know defeat,

But because we will never again sow division.

    Scripture tells us to envision

That everyone shall sit under their own vine and fig tree

And no one shall make them afraid.

If were to live up to our own time,

Then victory wont lie in the blade,

But in all the bridges weve made.

That is the promise to glade,

The hill we climb if only we dare it

    Because being American is more than a pride we inherit;

Its the past we step into and how we repair it.

Weve seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share it,

Would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy,

And this effort very nearly succeeded.

But while democracy can be periodically delayed,

It can never be permanently defeated.

In this truth, in this faith, we trust

For while we have our eyes on the future,

History has its eyes on us.

This is the era of just redemption

    We feared at its inception.

We did not feel prepared to be the heirs

    Of such a terrifying hour.

But within it, we found the power

    To author a new chapter

To offer hope and laughter to ourselves.

    So while once we asked

How could we possibly prevail over catastrophe?

    Now we assert

How could catastrophe possibly prevail over us?

We will not march back to what was

But move to what shall be

A country that is bruised but whole,

benevolent, but bold, fierce, and free.

We will not be turned around or inter-rupted by intimidation

Because we know our inaction and inertia will be the inheritance of the next generation.

    Our blunders become their burdens,

    But one thing is certain,

If we merge mercy with might and might with right,

Then love becomes our legacy and change our childrens birthright.

So let us leave behind a country

Better than the one we were left

With every breath from my bronze-pounded chest

We will raise this wounded world into a wondrous one.

We will rise from the gold-limbed hills of the West.

We will rise from the wind-swept Northeast where our forefathers first realized revolution.

We will rise from the lake-rimmed cities of the Midwestern states.

We will rise from the sun-baked South.

We will rebuild, reconcile, and recover

In every known nook of our nation,

In every corner called our country,

    Our people, diverse and beautiful,

    Will emerge battered and beautiful.

    When day comes,

We step out of the shade aflame and unafraid.

The new dawn blooms as we free it,

    For there is always light,

If only were brave enough to see it,

If only were brave enough to be it.

    放下武器解放雙手,我們才能展臂相擁。

    我們努力不讓任何人受到傷害,而讓所有人和睦相處。

    讓世界,只是讓世界,

    都說這是真的:

    即便我們痛苦著,但我們成長了;

    即便我們受了傷,但我們有過希望;

    即便我們疲憊不堪,但我們曾經(jīng)嘗試;

    我們將會永遠(yuǎn)團(tuán)結(jié)一致,迎接勝利。

    不是因?yàn)槲覀冇肋h(yuǎn)不再落敗失意

    而是因?yàn)槲覀儗⒂肋h(yuǎn)不再播種分歧。

    《圣經(jīng)》告訴我們要想象

    人人可以安坐在自己的葡萄樹和無花果樹下

    沒有人會使他們擔(dān)驚受怕。

    倘若我們不辜負(fù)自己的時代,

    勝利不取決于拼爭的刀劍,

    而依賴于互通的橋梁。

    那就是通往林間平地的希望,

    只要我們敢挑戰(zhàn),我們就在攀登那座山,

    因?yàn)樯頌槊绹?,不僅意味著承襲一份驕傲,

    還須反思過往,彌補(bǔ)遺憾。

    我們看見一股勢力要讓國家分崩離析而非團(tuán)結(jié)共享,

    若它旨在延宕民主,就會毀掉我們的國體,

    這股勢力差點(diǎn)得逞。

    然而,盡管民主偶爾會遲來,

    它卻永遠(yuǎn)不會被徹底擊敗。

    我們相信這個真理,對這一信念深信不疑,

    因?yàn)楫?dāng)我們展望未來時,

    歷史也將目光投向我們。

    這正是救贖的時代

    我們卻曾害怕它的到來。

    我們沒有準(zhǔn)備好去做繼承人,

    去面對那樣一個驚恐的時辰。

    然而就在這一時刻,我們找到了力量

    來書寫嶄新的篇章,

    給我們自己希望,給我們自己笑聲。

    所以我們曾經(jīng)發(fā)問,

    我們?nèi)绾文軌蚩朔渷y?

    現(xiàn)在我們能有力地回答:

    禍亂如何能把我們壓垮?

    我們將不會重蹈覆轍

    而會向既定的目標(biāo)邁進(jìn),

    一個國家遭受創(chuàng)傷但尚完整,

    仁善而又無畏、勇猛,且自由。

    我們不會因遭遇恫嚇而調(diào)頭后退或停步不前,

    因?yàn)槲覀冎啦蛔鳛椴恍袆又粫昙跋乱淮?/p>

    我們的種種舛錯就是他們的累害。

    然而,有件事情確定無疑:

    倘若我們把悲憫與力量結(jié)合,將力量與正義結(jié)合,

    愛會為我們所傳承并改變我們后代與生俱來的權(quán)利。

    讓我們?yōu)楹蟠粝乱粋€美好國度,

    比我們所繼承的那個更好。

    我的胸膛如青銅鍛造般堅(jiān)強(qiáng),隨著胸口呼出的每一口氣,

    我們將提升這受傷的世界,讓它美妙無比。

    我們將從西部金燦燦的山巒崛起。

    我們將從大風(fēng)肆虐的東北部崛起,

    我們的祖先在那里最早將革命實(shí)現(xiàn)。

    我們將從中西部各州的水澤城市崛起。

    我們將從驕陽似火的南方崛起。

    我們將重建、和解并復(fù)蘇

    在每一寸國土上,

    在每一個角落里,

    我們的人民多彩多姿,英姿勃勃,

    將會綻放崢嶸,飽經(jīng)風(fēng)霜卻靚麗如常。

    天亮?xí)r,

    讓我們走出陰影,身披霞光,無畏前往。

    我們擺脫陰影時新曙光會格外明亮,

    因?yàn)楣庥啦粫纾?/p>

    我們只需鼓足勇氣去發(fā)現(xiàn)它,

    我們只需鼓足勇氣去成為它。

她于2015年出版詩集《食不果腹的人》(The One for Whom Food Is Not Enough)。
