Shanghai Translation Publishing House sets up international copyright center

Lately， Shanghai Translation Publishing House has set up an international copyright center to act as an agent for Chinese writers to deal with the translation rights. The center has yielded results at the preparatory stage. For example， Moses on the Plain， a masterpiece by Shuang Xuetao， a young writer well-known in recent years， was exported to Italy and published in April 2021. Recently， the copyright of the work has also been sold to Henry Holt and Company， a famous American literary publisher， and it will be published in English in the spring of 2022. The English version of the poetry anthology of Wang Yin， a famous poet in Shanghai， will also be published by the New York Review Books of the United States.

Since its establishment over 40 years ago， Shanghai Translation Publishing House has introduced and published a large number of modern and contemporary literary works and social science books of foreign countries to China， and has accumulated extensive international publishing resources. To more effectively promote Chinese literary works in the international market， the publishing house decided to cooperate with excellent copyright agencies in China to build an international copyright center. Archipel Press was its first partner. This press has introduced Conversations with Friends and Normal People of Sally Rooney， an Irish cutting-edge writer， as well as the collection of works of Colm Tóibín， an Irish national treasure writer. This collection strives to act as an agent for 20 Chinese first-tier writers for their international copyright within 3 years and helps their works be published in mainstream publishing houses around the world. Previously， Blossoms of Jin Yucheng， the winner of the Mao Dun Literature Prize， for whom the press acted as an agent， has sold copyright in eight countries， including the United States， France， Germany， Japan， Italy， and Spain.

Han Weidong， president of Shanghai Translation Publishing House， said that in the future， the international copyright center will focus on promoting A War with Oneself and Northward Bound I Go， two classic masterpieces of the famous writer Lin Bai， as well as Victim in Me of Zheng Zhi. （Mu）
