      Research on the Path of Mathematics Discipline Construction Based on Demand Orientation: A Case Study of Tianjin Agricultural University

      Abstract With the arrival of the era of big data, the basic research of mathematics has attracted unprecedented attention all over the country. To meet the needs of the development of the times, the construction of mathematics discipline has become one of the important tasks of higher mathematics teaching. Starting from the demand orientation, this paper deeply analyzes the problems existing in mathematics education at the present stage, and constructs the construction path of mathematics discipline based on demand orientation.

      1 Introduction

      As the carrier of university construction, disciplines have the obligation and responsibility to take on the mission of serving the national strategic needs, serving the needs of regional economic development and serving the society[1]. Once the discipline construction is separated from the demand, there will be no direction for development, no goal for reform, and no standard for evaluation. How to build a first-class discipline construction path based on demand orientation has become the focus of hot discussion in the field of higher education. With the arrival of the era of big data, the formulation of national policies and the operation of micro-businesses are inseparable from the analysis and processing of data. Therefore, cultivating top-notch and innovative talents with international vision who can meet the needs of national scientific and technological and economic development poses a series of important issues to the mathematics discipline at present[2].

      2 The problems existing in the mathematics discipline at the present stage

      2.1 Lack of high-level leadersAt present, the overall strength of Tianjin Agricultural University in mathematical scientific research is weak. The main reason is that the teachers are only engaged in the teaching of basic mathematics courses in university for a long time, most of them have not received formal scientific research training, their scientific research ability is not strong, and they are at a disadvantage compared with the teachers in other domestic universities. The introduction of high-level and promising leading talents is a major challenge for the current mathematics discipline to achieve sustainable development.

      2.2 Lack of interdisciplinary integrationChina is in an important period of scientific and technological transformation, materials, energy, network information, intelligent manufacturing and other key areas and industries related to the national economy and people’s livelihood are facing many scientific and technological bottlenecks. The solution to these problems requires the deep integration of mathematics and other disciplines to achieve major breakthroughs and innovations in cutting-edge theoretical research and key technology research and development. The mathematics discipline will rely on the existing disciplines and cross-research platforms to deeply implement the collaborative education plan for the integration of science and education. How to build a set of mechanisms and evaluation systems which are conducive to the development and deep integration of cross-disciplines and the cultivation of high-level interdisciplinary talents is one of the important tasks facing the current mathematics discipline.

      2.3 Instable mainstream research direction of the discipline

      The research direction is the soul and orientation of discipline construction[3]. The research direction of mathematics teachers in the same subject is scattered, and they cannot put their efforts in one place, so it is difficult to set up academic echelons and scientific research teams[4]. There is no long-term discipline construction plan, and there is a phenomenon of temporary patchwork when applying for projects. They do not pay enough attention to the construction and management of mathematics discipline, ignoring the stability of the mainstream research direction.

      3 The path of mathematics discipline construction

      3.1 Strengthening the construction of teaching staffDiscipline competition is essentially the competition of talents[2]. On the one hand, we should increase capital investment and make great efforts to attract outstanding talents; on the other hand, we should attach importance to, cherish and train talents, so as to ensure the stable development of the discipline and continue to produce high-quality academic achievements. In order to meet the needs of the educational development of the times, we must constantly improve the comprehensive quality of teachers themselves. Different levels of teachers should be trained at different levels to equip themselves better in time. Veteran teachers with rich teaching experience mainly learn new teaching skills-modern information technology. For new teachers, it is necessary to implement a strict teaching access system. In terms of teaching content and teaching ability, they can only obtain the teaching qualification of relevant courses after passing the inspection and examination by school supervision experts.

      3.2 Promoting the crossing and integration of disciplinesIn mathematics, the social demand is not only for mathematicians and talents specialized in mathematics research, but also for a large number of people who need to engage in practical work in various sectors. They can be good at using mathematical knowledge and mathematical thinking methods to solve a large number of practical problems they face every day, and achieve economic and social benefits. Therefore, it is necessary to build an interdisciplinary curriculum system, set up an interdisciplinary teaching team, set up interdisciplinary research projects, and create conditions for top students to participate in interdisciplinary learning and research, so as to stimulate students’ internal learning motivation, and boldly explore the frontiers of basic disciplines. It is necessary to give full play to the leading role of superior disciplines and characteristic disciplines, constantly promote the integration and innovation of cross-disciplines, and nourish new academic growth points. It is necessary to continue to explore the areas of cross-integration, build a new innovation team, increase the crossing of disciplines, and effectively promote the overall construction of disciplines in the university[2].

      3.3 Further improving the discipline evaluation systemDis-cipline assessment and evaluation is a common means to judge the feasibility of discipline construction path, the scientificity of allocation of resources and the effectiveness of construction measures through the input of manpower and material resources, construction process, serving the society and so on. It is a complex and systematic important task, which is not only related to the reform and development of colleges and universities, but also related to the vital interests of teachers, as well as the university selection of students. At present, the internal discipline evaluation of colleges and universities mainly depends on third-party evaluation rankings such as ESI, QS, and discipline evaluation. Although the external evaluation results are important reference indicators, relying solely on the external evaluation results cannot help us to accurately analyze the problem of discipline construction in the universities. It is necessary to establish a dynamic monitoring mechanism for the performance of discipline construction, which accords with the goal of talent training and highlights the advantages of the university.

      4 Conclusion

      At present, the construction of first-class disciplines is still in the exploratory stage, as long as the majority of university teachers do not forget their initial ideals and aspirations, do not fear difficulties, forge ahead, always adhere to demand orientation, find the right entry point of service demand, take the initiative to provide accurate service, it will be able to form advantages and create characteristic disciplines in the service demand.
