兩只兔子

There were once two rabbits， Wanda the Wise and Frederick the Foolish， who were walking through a field. They were good friends and enjoyed their strolls together.

On this walk， they came upon two carrots. One of the carrots had large leaves sprouting out of the top and the other looked much smaller from the surface.

Frederick was excited and ran up to the carrot with the larger leaves.

“Ill have this one，” he proudly exclaimed and proceeded to extract it from the ground.

Wanda shrugged her shoulders and pulled out the other carrot， which turned out to be much bigger.

Frederick was surprised and asked how this could possibly be.

Wanda looked at her friend and replied， “You cant always judge a carrot by its leaves.”

They kept on walking and came across another pair of carrots， again with different sized leaves.

This time Frederick allowed his friend the first pick.

Wanda hopped to each carrot， inspected and sniffed them carefully and， to Fredericks surprise， chose the carrot with the larger leaves.

As they each extracted their carrots from the ground， Frederick was bemused to see that his carrot was smaller than Wandas.

“I thought that you said that small leaves meant it would be a large carrot，” he said.

“No，” replied Wanda，“I said dont judge a carrot by its leaves. Its also important to remember to think before you choose.”

Frederick nodded and they ate their carrots before continuing their stroll.

For a third time， they found two carrots， again with different sized leaves.

Frederic looked confused and didnt know what to do. Wanda indicated that he could choose which carrot to eat.

The poor foolish rabbit， pretended to inspect each carrot， but he didnt really know what to do. He knew that he wasnt as smart as his friend and he looked to Wanda with a confused expression on his face.

Wanda smiled warmly and hopped over to the carrots.She inspected them and pulled out one of the carrots.

Frederic shrugged his shoulders and went to the other one before he was interrupted by his wise friend.

“No， Frederic， this one is your carrot，” she said.

“But you made the choice， and Im sure its the bigger one of the two. I dont know how you do it， but I guess youre just smarter than me.”

“Frederic， theres no point in having wisdom if you are not willing to share the benefits of it with others. Youre my friend， and I want you to have this carrot. A smart rabbit with a full stomach but no friends isnt really wise， is she？”

“I guess youre right， as usual，” said Frederic with a full mouth.

The ancient Greek philosophy Epicurus once said，“Of all the things which wisdom provides to make life entirely happy， much the greatest is the possession of friendship.”

從前有兩只兔子——睿智的旺達(dá)和笨笨的弗雷德里克，他們正在步行穿過(guò)一片田野。兩只兔子是一對(duì)好朋友，非常喜歡在一起閑逛。

在路上，他們偶然發(fā)現(xiàn)了兩株胡蘿卜。其中一株胡蘿卜的頂端長(zhǎng)著大大的葉子，而另一株胡蘿卜看起來(lái)小多了。

弗雷德里克興奮不已，于是往長(zhǎng)著大葉子的胡蘿卜跑去。

“我要這一個(gè)?！彼靡獾卮舐曊f(shuō)，然后動(dòng)手將胡蘿卜從地里拔了出來(lái)。

旺達(dá)聳聳肩，拔出了另一株胡蘿卜，結(jié)果這個(gè)胡蘿卜大多了。

弗雷德里克感到很詫異，于是問(wèn)怎么可能會(huì)這樣。

旺達(dá)看著她的朋友，回答道：“你不能總是通過(guò)葉子來(lái)判斷胡蘿卜的大小?！?/p>

他們繼續(xù)走，又發(fā)現(xiàn)了兩株胡蘿卜，且葉子的大小仍然不一樣。

這一次，弗雷德里克讓旺達(dá)先選。

旺達(dá)跳到兩株胡蘿卜前，細(xì)細(xì)地查看了一番，又仔細(xì)地聞了聞，然后選了葉子大的胡蘿卜。這出乎弗雷德里克的意料。

旺達(dá)和弗雷德里克分別拔出了自己選的胡蘿卜后，弗雷德里克看到自己的胡蘿卜比旺達(dá)的小，一臉困惑。

“我記得你說(shuō)過(guò)， 葉子小意味著胡蘿卜更大。”他說(shuō)。

“不，”旺達(dá)回答道，“我說(shuō)的是，不要通過(guò)葉子來(lái)判斷胡蘿卜的大小。在選擇之前要記得思考，這一點(diǎn)也很重要。”

弗雷德里克點(diǎn)點(diǎn)頭。他們吃掉了胡蘿卜，繼續(xù)閑逛。

他們第三次找到兩株胡蘿卜，葉子的大小還是不一樣。

弗雷德里克看起來(lái)一臉迷茫，不知所措。旺達(dá)說(shuō)，他可以選一個(gè)

胡蘿卜吃。

弗雷德里克這個(gè)可憐的小笨蛋，裝模作樣地觀(guān)察兩株胡蘿卜，但是他根本不知道選哪一個(gè)。他知道自己沒(méi)有好友聰明，于是他一臉困惑地看向旺達(dá)。

旺達(dá)親切地笑了笑，跳到胡蘿卜旁。她仔細(xì)地觀(guān)察一番，然后拔出了其中一株。

弗雷德里克聳聳肩膀，跳到另一株胡蘿卜前。這時(shí)好友旺達(dá)卻打斷了他。

“不，弗雷德里克，這個(gè)胡蘿卜是你的?！彼f(shuō)。

“但這是你選的呀，我肯定這個(gè)要大一些。我不知道你是怎么辨別出來(lái)的，不過(guò)，我猜是因?yàn)槟惚任衣斆?。?/p>

“弗雷德里克，如果不愿與別人分享聰明智慧的好處，那么聰明又有什么意義呢？你是我的好朋友，我想要你吃這個(gè)胡蘿卜。一只聰明的兔子，自己吃飽肚子，卻沒(méi)有朋友，這不是真正的睿智，對(duì)嗎？”

“我覺(jué)得你說(shuō)得對(duì)，和往常一樣。”弗雷德里克嘴里含著食物說(shuō)道。

古希臘哲學(xué)家伊壁鳩魯曾說(shuō)過(guò)：“智慧能給人帶來(lái)讓人終身幸福的事物，其中，擁有友情最重要?！?/p>
