這些英語可以望文生義

busybody不是指“大忙人”而是指“愛多管閑事的人”，white man不是“白人”而是“忠實可靠的人”，black stranger不是“陌生的黑人”而是“完全陌生的人”……在學(xué)習(xí)英語的過程中，我們總被提醒由于中西方文化的差異，對英文表達(dá)千萬不可望文生義。不過，今天小編要說的是，有些英語表達(dá)可以根據(jù)字面意思來理解，可以望文生義。

1.Walls have ears.隔墻有耳。

例如：-Did I tell you what I found out about Fred？我告訴了你我發(fā)現(xiàn)弗瑞德什么了嗎？

-Shhh！ Walls have ears. Dont say anything about our business dealings in here.噓，隔墻有耳，不要在這兒說我們生意上的事。

2.try ones hand嘗試，一試身手

例如：Oscar-nominee Lee Daniels was planning to try his hand at horror movies.獲得奧斯卡提名的李·丹尼爾斯當(dāng)時正打算嘗試恐怖片。

和hand相關(guān)的其他詞組還有：need hands需要人手；tie ones hand and foot綁住了手腳；with bare hands赤手空拳。

3. Strike while the iron is hot.趁熱打鐵。

例如：Ask Lisa for a favor now， while shes in a good mood. Strike wh.le the iron is hot.

趁麗薩心情好，去請她幫忙吧。趁熱打鐵。

4.in the bag探囊取物；十拿九穩(wěn)的

例如：Once wed scored the third goal，the match was pretty much in the bag.再進(jìn)第三個球，這場比賽我們就贏定了。

5.make ones mouth water（指美食）令人饞涎欲滴

例如：The sight of that chocolate cake made her mouth water.

看到巧克力蛋糕，她口水都出來了。

6.have ones hands fu很忙：應(yīng)接不暇

例如：Right now lve got my hands full with preparations for the conference.

我現(xiàn)在手頭正忙，在為會議做準(zhǔn)備。

7.go down in history載入史冊

例如：l think that，in the end，he will go down in history as a famous scientist，我想，最后，他會作為著名科學(xué)家載入史冊的。

和history有關(guān)的詞組還有make history，意為“創(chuàng)造歷史”。

8.There is truth in wine.酒后吐真言。

例如：You might have to believe it. There is truth in wine.

你或許必須相信這件事。酒后吐真言呢。

9.born into wealth天生富責(zé)，出身富貴

例如：Though born into wealth， he still works hard and values every penny he earns.雖然出生在富貴之家，但他還是很努力的工作，珍惜自己掙得的每一分錢。

10.Dack ones baas打包袱走人

例如：Tell him if he doesnt shake up， he can pack his bags.

告訴他，他若還不振作起來的話，就讓他打包袱走人。

11. in ones dreams做夢去吧

例如：-I can beat you.我可以打敗你。

-Yeah， in your dreams.是的，在夢里。

12.say to ones face當(dāng)面說

例如：I never say it to her face， but her hair looks terrible.

我不會當(dāng)她的面說，但她的頭發(fā)太難看了。

和face相關(guān)的詞組還有l(wèi)ose face，表示“丟面子”。

13.full of oneself自滿，目中無人

例如： Mary is very unpopular because shes so full of herself. She doesnt care about otherpeoples feelings.瑪麗不是很受歡迎，因為她太自滿了，從來不管別人的感受。

14.pave the way for為……鋪平道路

例如：Scientists hope that data from this expedition will pave the way for a more detailedexploration of Mars?？茖W(xué)家們希望此次考察獲得的數(shù)據(jù)可以為進(jìn)一步的火星探索鋪平道路。
