      Abstract

      The teacher is crucial to the education's success or failure of a nation. The demand to a teacher is being asked higher and higher by the society and the people. Then how to be a good teacher is a problem which we English teachers should solve right now. This passage will tell it from two aspects:1. The teacher should be humorous;2.The teacher should be a learned person, which are helpful to the teacher's progress and following the times.

      To be a good teacher is very important for the education. So how to be a good teacher is a topic which is worth thinking deeply for us English teachers. In this passage I will talk it from two aspects as below:

      1. The teacher should be humorous.

      It can adjust the boys and the girls psychology and activate the classs atmosphere. Good humorous teaching arts have the feature of quick diffusing and the power of emotional appeal, which can easily arouse their minds waves to make them take part in the activities in class, thus it can reach the function of activating the classs atmosphere. For example, in the new term of the latter half of the year of 2014 I had the first class for the boys and the girls of the Class 8,Grade 1,when entering the classroom I said” Hello, everyone. Nice to meet you! Oh, my god! It is what is said in the game, fighting the landowner? Fighting the landowner? Then the whole class is full of the happy laughers. It can help to build the harmonious relationship between the teachers and the students. One very important function of humorous art is to contact the teachers and the students together 、shorten the distance between them in the happiness, which can motivate the students thirst for knowledge、push the students inner power for study forward、cultivate their tastes、strike a chord between them easily. The boys and the girls can experience the relaxation and joy 、clear off their worries、be optimistic in this process. In it the boys and the girls should enjoy it and put their hearts and souls into study, dont try to please the public with claptrap 、disturb the normal teaching order and offset track of teaching.

      2.The teacher should be a learned person.

      How to be a learned person? At first the teacher should make all the knowledge in our texts and papers clear. When meeting with some language points, the teacher should look it up in a standard and professional dictionary, make full use of the internet, discuss with his colleagues, consult the old and skilful teaching experts, to learn a lesson from the constantly repeating the teaching process. Meanwhile the teacher should follow the times 、update the knowledge in time and pay attention to the fashionable word all the time. Then, if the time and energy is much enough, the teacher should have their other poor subject/subjects repaired, because English and other subjects supplement each other. When a learned teacher has his lesson, the boys and the girls are listening to it with keen pleasure; you will hear a pin drop. In this process the teacher will feel very relaxed and have a sense of achievement and the students will admire and worship the teacher unfeignedly. To its opposite, if what a teacher has just explained is just so so, the boys and the girls will feel bored、be in low spirits and their thoughts will desert their posts, many students will think the level of the teacher is very poor, some even wont listen to the lesson carefully any more. If things continue in this way, the teachings effectiveness is greatly reduced and reaches little effect. So, if the teacher dont want to mislead and cause great harm to the young men and meditate earning a good reputation for himself, he must take exercise for his ‘inner Kung Fu‘. I remember that when I studied in class 1, Grade 2, the No.5 High School of Ma Cheng City, in the latter term of the year, 1995, our history teacher, Mr. Liu, was very popular among us. He often led us into the interesting part of the history by chapter and verse. He was so learned and excellent that he was removed by digging by No.1High School of Ma Cheng City(the only key senior middle school of Ma Cheng City/ the only model senior middle school in Hu Bei Province of Ma Cheng City) after having had several lessons of history for us. I still miss him since then though it has passed for 19 years.

      In conclusion, if you do as what I have talked above, it will be very helpful for you to be a good English teacher who is very popular between the students and your colleagues.
