中國學生何江的哈佛演講：蜘蛛咬傷軼事

美國東部時間2016年5月26日是哈佛的第365個畢業(yè)日，在這次的畢業(yè)典禮上，來自中國湖南的生物學博士畢業(yè)生何江作為代表做了畢業(yè)典禮演講。作為中國大陸首位登上該演講臺的學生，作為一名從湖南農村走出來的生物學博士生，何江用他的親身經歷——被蜘蛛咬傷的往事講起，說明知識傳播、知識分布資源平衡的重要性。

When I was in middle school， a poisonous①poisonous英 ［'p??z?n?s］ 美 ［'p??z?n?s］ adj. 有毒的；惡毒的；討厭的spider bit my right hand. I ran to my mom for help，but instead of taking to a doctor， my Mom set my hand on fire. After rubbing②rubbing 英 ［'r?b??］ 美 ［'r?b??］ n. 摩擦；研磨；摹拓my hand with several mares of cotton then soaked③soak 英 ［s??k］ 美 ［sok］ vt. 吸收，吸入；沉浸在（工作或學習中）；使……上下濕透in wine，she put a chopstick into my mouth and ignited④ignite 英 ［?ɡ'na?t］ 美 ［?ɡ'na?t］ vt. 點燃；使燃燒；使激動vi. 點火；燃燒the cotton.

There was no doctor my mother could bring me to see about this spider bite. For those who study Biology，you may have brought the science behind my mom's cure: heat deactivates⑤deactivate英 ［di?'?kt?ve?t］美 ［di'?kt?，vet］vt. 使無效；使不活動；遣散；復員proteins⑥protein英 ［'pr??ti?n］ 美 ［'protin］ n. 蛋白質；朊adj. 蛋白質的and the spider venom is full of protein. It's cool how could this folk remedy⑦remedy英 ［'rem?d?］美 ［'r?m?di］ vt. 補救；治療；糾正n. 補救；治療；賠償incorporate with the base of biochemistry， isn't it？

But I am a Ph.D student in Biochemistry study at Harvard， I now know a better， less painful and less risky treatment existed. So，I can't help but ask myself，why I did't receive one at that time？

Fifteen years have passed since that incident，I am happy to report that my hand is fine. But this question lingers and I continued to be troubled by the unequal⑧unequal英 ［?n'i?kw（?）l］美 ［?n'ikw?l］ adj. 不平等的；不規(guī)則的；不勝任的n. 不等同的事物distribution of scientific knowledge throughout the world.

在我上中學的時候，一只有毒蜘蛛咬傷了我的右手，我去找母親幫忙，但是她沒有找醫(yī)生，卻把我的手放在火上面。她用酒浸過的棉紗繞著我的手纏了好幾層之后，在我的嘴里放了一根筷子，然后點燃了棉紗。

當我被蜘蛛咬傷時，并沒有醫(yī)生可以來治療我。對于學生物學的人來說，你也許能找到我母親治愈背后所包含的科學原理：熱量能夠讓蛋白質失活，而蜘蛛的毒液都是蛋白質組成的。將這個土方子和生物化學基礎聯系起來很神奇，不是呢？

不過我現在是一個在哈佛學習生物化學的博士生，我現在知道了一個更好的、不那么痛、危險系數更小的治療方法。所以，我忍不住問我自己，為什么那個時候我不能接受更好的治療呢？

距離那個事故發(fā)生已經十五年了，我很高興地告訴你們：我的手現在恢復的很好。不過這個問題在我心里縈繞了很久，我也時常會被科學知識分布的不均衡問題所困擾。
