正譯：In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the actors were rehearsing a singing and dancing programme.

解釋：to exercise 的意思是“通過練習(xí)進(jìn)行培訓(xùn)”，其賓語是人，沒有“排練節(jié)目”的含義。to rehearse 的意思是“為準(zhǔn)備公演而練習(xí)節(jié)目”，具有“排練節(jié)目”的含義。排練、排演或排，英語動詞可以譯為 to rehearse, to have/do/ hold a rehearsal, to run through, to have/do/practise a dry run；名詞可以譯為 rehearsal, rehearsing。例1. 這個京劇團(tuán)最近排了一出名叫《赤壁》的京劇。This Beijing opera troupe has recently rehearsed a Beijing opera called Red Cliff.
