Three boys were bragging (吹牛,自吹) about their fathers.
The first one said, “My father runs so fast that he can shoot(射) an arrow(箭), start running, and get there before the arrow!”
The second one said, “Thats nothing! My father can shoot a gun, start running, and get there before the bullet(子彈)!”
The third boy just smiled and said slowly, “Thatsnothing. My father is a civil servant (政府文職人員; 公務(wù)員). He gets off work at 5 pm and getshome before 4 pm!”

no是英語中的一個(gè)常用詞，它既可用作形容詞、副詞，也可用作名詞。為了便于同學(xué)們掌握它的用法，現(xiàn)簡要?dú)w納如下：
一、用作副詞。
1． 用作否定回答，意為“不”。例如：
A: Did you go to the beach yesterday? 你昨天去海灘了嗎？
B: No, I didnt. 不，我沒有去。
【特別提醒】 回答否定疑問句或一個(gè)陳述部分為否定式的反意疑問句時(shí)，翻譯成漢語時(shí)，no譯為“是”或“對”。例如：
A: Didnt you visit your English teacher? 你沒去拜訪你的英語老師嗎？
B: No, I didnt. 是的，我沒去。
二、用作形容詞。
1． 表示“沒有”的意思，其后可接單、復(fù)數(shù)可數(shù)名詞或不可數(shù)名詞。相當(dāng)于not a, not one, not any。例如：
He has no children. 他沒有孩子。
There is no water in the bottle. 瓶子里沒有水。
【特別提醒】 修飾名詞時(shí)，no不能與冠詞、指示代詞、物主代詞以及some, any, much, every等不定代詞連用，但可與不定代詞other連用。例如：
他沒有錢。
【誤】 He has no any (his, the) money.
【正】 He has no money. / He has not any money.
2．表示“禁止”或“不許”等意思，其后接動名詞。例如：
No parking!不準(zhǔn)停車！
3. 表示“沒有……就沒有……”的意思，其后可接名詞，相當(dāng)于“no... without...”。例如：
No pains, no gains. 不勞無獲。
三、用作名詞。
1． 意為“不”或“否定”。例如：
Answer with a yes or no. 請回答是與不是。
2. 復(fù)數(shù)形式noes意為“不”，“否定”，“投反對票者”等。例如：
The noes have it. 投反對票者得勝。
