2008年6月21日微軟（Microsoft）創(chuàng)辦人比爾·蓋茨（Bill Gates）接受英國BBC電視節(jié)目《Newsnight》訪問時表示，將把自己580億美元（4,524億港元）財產(chǎn)全數(shù)捐給名下慈善基金比爾＆梅琳達·蓋茨基金會（Bill & Miranda Gates Foundation），一分一毫也不會留給自己子女。

2008年6月27日12:00（美國東部時間6月27日00:00），微軟創(chuàng)始人、董事長蓋茨正式退休，全身心投入到慈善事業(yè)中。此后，蓋茨每周只會到微軟上班一天，其他時間將放在慈善事業(yè)上。而作為全職慈善家，他要去的第一站就是中國。

●Life is not fair, get used to it. 生活是不公平的，要去適應它。

●The world wont care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something before you feel good about yourself. 世界并不會在意你的自尊。這世界指望你在自我感覺良好之前先要有所成就。

●You will not make 40 thousand dollars a year right out of high school. You wont be a vice president with a car phone, until you earn both.剛畢業(yè)的你不會一年掙4萬美元，在你將此職位和汽車都掙到手以前，你不會成為一個公司的副總裁，并擁有一部裝有電話的汽車。

●If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss. He doesnt have tenure. 如果你認為你的教師嚴厲，等你在老板手下干活時再這樣想，老板可不像教師那樣有任期限制的。

●If you mess up, its not your parents fault, so dont whine about our mistakes, learn from them. 如果你陷入困境，那不是你父母的過錯，所以不要抱怨錯誤，要從中汲取教訓。

●Before you were born, your parents werent as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you are. ●Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not. In some schools they have abolished failing grades; theyll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. This doesnt bear the slightest resemblance to anything in real life. 你的學校也許已經(jīng)不再分優(yōu)等生和劣等生，但生活卻仍在做出類似區(qū)分。某些學校已經(jīng)廢除不及格分，只要你想找到正確答案，學校會給你無數(shù)次機會。這和現(xiàn)實生活中的任何事情沒有一點相似之處。

●Life is not divided into semesters. You dont get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time. 生活不分學期，你并沒有暑假可以休息，也沒有幾位雇主樂于幫助你發(fā)現(xiàn)自我。自己找時間做吧。

●Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs. 電視不是真實的生活?，F(xiàn)實生活中，人們實際上得離開咖啡屋去干自己的工作。

●Be nice to nerds. Chances are youll end up working for one. 善待乏味的人。有可能到頭來你在工作中也會變成一個乏味的人。
