Do you think that textile industry is something related onlywith fashion and shiny models? You are wrong.
Textile industry has much deeper connection with yourlives than you can imagine. For example, those fibers madefrom specific items with special technologies can be so softthat we can make our under wears out of it, and it can also beso hard that we dress our satellites and rockets with it.
There is no need to discuss the importance of water. Andthere is no need to describe what a water crisis we are ineither. Yes, this blue planet is hunger for water, and one ofthe solutions is to make most of use of the waters we alreadyhave, including the waste waters, that is, the development ofthe technology of recycled water.
Recycled water can satisfy most water demands, as longas it is adequately treated to ensure water quality appropriatefor the use. In uses where there is a greater chance of humanexposure to the water, more treatment is required. As for anywater source that is not properly treated, health problemscould arise from drinking or being exposed to recycled waterif it contains disease-causing organisms or other contaminants.
Many developed countries have realized the importanceof Recycled Water, and are trying to establish as many asrecycled water plan as possible. For example, across greaterSydney more than 20 schemes recycle around 22 billion litersof wastewater a year for home use, irrigation, agriculture andindustry, including Sydney Water's own sewage treatmentplant operations. By 2015 recycling will increase to 70 billionliters a year.
In an increasing number of regions around the world, water recycling using ultra-filtration membranes andmembrane bioreactor technology is providing a sustainablesource of new water. Ultra-filtration and membrane bioreactortechnology can treat wastewater to such a high standard that itcan be safely utilized for any non-potable application such asirrigation, industrial process water or groundwater recharge.
Founded in year of 1912, Tianjin Polytechnic University(http://www.tjpu.edu.cn) has been studying how to applyvarious kinds of fiber technologies into different kinds offields. One of the most remarkable technologies that has ahistory of 30 years is the Membrane separation technology, which is an important technology for the purification water, which means that components can be separated mechanicallywhen a solution goes through a semi-permeable membrane. The semi-permeable membrane is also named separationmembrane whose feature is that there are a great many poresdistributing in the membrane wall. Regarding the pore sizesthere are types of MF, UF, RO, NF etc.
Because of its operating in room temperature, no phasetransform, saving energy, no pollutant generated, as a maturetechnique, membrane separation technology has appliedin industrial and civilian pure water preparation, germ andbacteria removal in food and beverage process, reclaiming andrefining of active material etc., and quickly popularizing inother fields, for example, chemicals, power, food, petroleum, textile, metallurgy, pharmacy, machine, ferment andbioengineering and so on. Membrane separation technologyis a new force suddenly coming to the fore in waterregeneration and environmental protection, it has especiallyextensive application in industrial sewage treatment. Andfrom which a new group was founded, Tianjin PolytechnicUniversity Motian Group (www.tj-motian.com).
This technology is widely put into practice in all theMcDonald restaurants in China, and some restaurants in southeast China to purify the water.
The amazing and important technology can be boileddown to the Hollow Fiber Membrane Technology, and nowlet's take a look at how it helps our lives to be more healthy.
Hollow Fiber Membrane andDevice
This part includes Membrane Bio-Reactor, Hollow fiberMF (Micro Filter) Membrane and device, Hollow fiber UF(Ultra Filter) membrane and device. The hollow fiber wasmade from Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF), a polymer that iswidely used in industry and it's hollow like macaroni.
The fibers were stick together in the way of shading, andthus the water will go into the fibers and pass through thehollow of the fiber. The inner diameter of the fiber is so small(usually measured by namometers) that all the impurities inthe water will be stuck and the water will be purifiedo
The Membrane Bio-Reactor (MBR) is a water processingtechnology that can separate water from mud. The membranecan separate 93% impurity factors from the water, and afterthe processing, the suspending rate and turbidity are almostzero. This membrane tech can help us a lot with purifyingthe dirty waters from daily life into waters that can water theflowers, washing cars, etc, and thus save the clean waters fordrinking. Everyday we produce thousands tons of dirty waters, and this technology enables us to use them again.
Hollow fiber MF (Micro Filter)Membrane and device can usually beseen in fields such as
Industrial pure water system in process ofpower, electronic, textile and food
Bacterium-free Water System
Refining of Juice and Wine.
Recycle of Water
Micro-filtration is mostly the filtration of substancesthat range in size 0.1 ,um to 10 um. Often micro-filtrationis used to refer to the removal of microbes, such as in coldsterilization since bacteria, fungal spores, yeast and someviruses fall into this size range. Filters with a 0.2 um orsmaller pore size rating are frequently regarded as being ableto sterilize solutions. Generally this is only approximately trueand then only if the filter itself is sterilized before use. FiltersWith larger pore size ratings may be used to clarify sampleswithout necessarily sterilizing them.
Hollow fiber UF (Ultra Filter)membrane and device are applied intomore sophisticated fields such as
Germ removal and drinking pure water manufacturefrom surface water,
Pyrogen removal and ultra-pure water system used inmedicine and pharmacy,
Bottled mineral water, bottled(potted)pure water system,
extraction/concentration/refiningof biological active materials,
Plasma separation device,
Desalination/fluorine removaland drinking pure water manufacturefrom surface water,
Desalination of biological micro-molecular solution.
This water-purification system hasalready been introduced into our dailylife. There are totally 21 cases for theapplication of the technology, includingthe first Desalination of sea waterproject in Singapore, Chejudao Airportrecycling water Project in Korea, andalso for more than 360 McDonaldsrestaurants in mainland China and 60restaurants in Taiwan.
In the case of McDonalds, thetap water would be led into WUF-5purifying equipment and mostimpurities, bacteria, and other elements harmful to humanbeings would be removed. This equipment ensures a constantwater flow and easy to clean up. McDonalds ensures thequality of water by applying this purification equipment.
From dresses, socks, hats, shoes, to quilts, sheets, torockets and satellites, now the purification of our daily water, textile industry is a trade that connects us all.
